Hi guys
I'm not too tehcnologically savvy, but hope someone can help out.
according to nokia's "Nokia For Business" website:
Mail for Exchange allows you to easily mobilize your Microsoft Exchange email, calendar, contacts, and tasks. Designed exclusively for Nokia devices, Mail for Exchange enables around 50 Nokia S60 devices to help provide a virtually seamless push email experience.
I'm currently usingan E61i and Mail for Exchange. Our exchange server is 2003 SBS SP2.
I only have options to sync mail and calander, not contacts. Also, I've not seen any option to allow push email. Does the push option have to be enabled in Exchange first? Does "push" need to be enabled by the Cellular Service Provider too?
How do I sync contacts?
We're being pushed to adopt Blackberries instead of Nokia's because of this lack of pushcontent, and seeming lack of contact sync.
Please help!! I don't want to go to DevilBerry!!

Hi!
there are several conditions which must be fulfilled:
- push email works only on exchange 2003 SP2 or exchnage 2007
- you have to install the latest version of mail for exchange to your device (currently 2.9.158) from nokia web site (download here http://www.businesssoftware.nokia.com/mail_for_exc
- you have to select "always-on" mode in the MfE settings in the device, which enables instant push
- you have to select e-mail, contacts, tasks and calendar for sync - also in the MfE settings in the device
- be carefull during the first sync. If you have contacts in the device and no contacts in the Exchange server, always choose "keep records in device" during the first sync, otherwise you loose all your contacts (backup prior to first sync is recommended)!
- after that, contacts from your device are transfered to your exchange account and vice versa. Since that time, changing/adding contact on either side results in syncing the contact to other side. It is the same with callendar and tasks.
Sync times are:
for calendar, tasks and contacts:
server->client - instant
client->server - during each heartbeat period (i.e. 15 minutes)
for e-mail
server->client - instant
client->server - instant (when you set "send e-mail immediatelly")
for more info, please read the MfE user guide available on the download page.
EDIT: One more note - currently, there are some issues using SBS version of exchnage with the mail for exchange - see the other threads for more info.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated!!
I have installed the latest version of MfE, and see there is the option to enable "Always on" under sync options. How would you know that push is enabled rather than a cintinuous pull, if that makes any sense...
Also, under Content sync, I still only have the option for "Synchronise calendar", "Sync calendar back" and "Initial sync", but can't seem to find any option to sync contacts. Am I missing something?

A time interval synchronization will pull new email from MS Exchange according to that time interval whereas the "Always on" will notify or push new changes as they arrive on Exchange to your device.
Finally, in order to get contacts to sync, do the following:

Hi guys!
Thanks for the clarification re push email.
I seem to be at a loss to find this contact synchronisation. As I said, when I open options for MfE, I only have the following:
I then enter Content synced, which gives me:
Nothing to do with contact sync - so is it missing from it's normal place? If so, what would cause it not to be selectable?
Thanks for the help with this guys, much appreciate it!

Hi Guys
I'm rather embarassed to admit I did not think to use the joystick button to scroll to the right...
Once I did that, there I found the menus for tasks and contact content...
How embarrassing...
Anyway, thanks guys...
Now I can try and see if we can get some new nokia E71i instead of Blackberry 9000s.

Have not had that experience with MfE. Have you tried removing and reinstalling the application?

I have tried these settings but the phone just keeps syncing constantly which eats up the battery
