Have you zoomed-in to the max. possible level ?
If yes.. and still no maps with details means most probably you have updated the OVI Maps application but there is no Maps Data installed..
Connect your Phone to PC and open the OVI Suite.. In the OVI Suite.. select Maps and then click on the Phone Icon at the bottom.. Then click on ALL just above it... It will search for the Maps and Voice Guidance files installed.. If nothing is found.. Click in the Top window and you will see the list of countries for which Maps are available.. Select the ones you want and download / install on the phone.. same for the voice files.. Now you shold see the detailed / street level maps ..
BTW providing your phone model along with your problem will be always welcomed..

Just like the original poster, my OviMaps continuously crashes after about 15 to 20 seconds. It is completely unuseable.
I have a nokia N8. maps version 3.06 10wk50b12...map version 0.2.41.11 installed together with Arizona, HK & Macao, Philippines maps loaded.
also....even though I have these maps installed in my phone memory, why do I get the following message when I open Ovimaps..'Network connection required. Define access point to connect?'...it then gives me options of network connections through my service provider.

Irrespective of whether OVI Maps application itself set "Online" or "Offline" the Assisted GPS positioning method found in Menu > Settings > Application settings > Positioning > Positioning methods requires a network access point defined in "Positioning server" to function although it can be disabled with consequences upon speed of positional acquisition.
Concerned about OVI Maps version and map data quoted as latest OVI Maps is ovi_maps_installer_3.06_11wk10_b01_tb9.2_com.sis from http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/ma ps-support/compatibility-and-download#/nokia-n8-00 ... and latest mapping is 0.2.42.122 which of course may be a typographic error.
I might suggest that you delete E:\Cities + .qf file, upgrade OVI Maps to latest version then open application to re-initialise and re-download regional maps.

I have upgraded to ovi_maps_installer_3.06_11wk10_b01_tb9.2_com, and since then I have the same problem as described by others: green screen in stead of maps, and a crash within a minute. No matter what I try. Anyone has a solution?

i renamed some files in the memory card \ cities \ maploader \ cityindex.xml and downloadstate.xml and the ovi suite is able to download
funny why ovi suite new version deletes the old maps, including the voice guidance files.. no confirmation to delete asked too?
