Mine is set to metric in both and it shows the correct speed warning.

Re: Agree with other odd things happening

Hello,

I have also tried every change to the metric/imperial options available and I still get really odd warnings, but if you change it to metric then the camera warnings on a 40mph limit changes to 65.  I mentioned the other day about maps 3 wanting me to go the extra long way and I said I'd check the shortest route.  This did take me the very short route, through every side road between the start and end locations LOL.

Nokia really don't seem to care about testing things these days, it's all about getting products out and designing new ones to replace already faulty products with more faulty products....  Massive loop for consumers to be stuck in, I was always told if your going to do a job, do it properly, guess nokia have never heard this saying.

Over the 17 month I have had my N95 8Gb, I have had masses of problems with it crashing, software problems and maps 3 is getting to be the worst satnav software available, when it could easily be the best on the market and include stand-a-lone units.  The problem is nokia have no pride in what they do and they just don't want to listen to the people like us using the application.  Nokia even upgraded maps 3 from the betalabs (Guys that did listen and tried to fix bugs) to the graduated version even though quite a lot of bugs had not been fixed and some of these are still present in the current version.

If you cantact nokia's support staff they don't have a clue and tell you something that has nothing to do with the problem you asked to be looked into, so nokia need to look into both problems with their products and helping their support people to know what they are talking about.

Both this forum and the betalabs forums are more help than nokia and I think we support nokia's products more than themselves.  I hope everyone on here keeps up the good work, as without these forums quite a lot of people would just give-in and get another phone (if they could afford it).

Come on guys and girls keep up the fantastic work at helping each other on the forums and hopefully nokia might get the message.

Just out of curiosity, was your N95 8gb network branded?

Re: Agree with other odd things happening

Hello,

How did you guess?  It was branded to Vodafone and I waited months to get the firmware update.  The thing is I still blame nokia for not receiving this update for so long, as I think nokia should make vodafone issue updates within say 2-3 weeks of nokia's release.  Nokia should stop all mobile operators branding software if they cannot do the update within weeks of an official firmware release, after all vodafone,O2,Orange and the rest are not mobile manufacturers, so don't truely know how they work and so should not tamper with the firmware.

I know lots of poeple will have the same thoughts as me.  My phone crashed again today, but I don't know if this is due to the battery vodafone repair centre placed in my phone (it looked as though they had played football with it in the workshop), but they are sending a new battery out within the next 10 days.

I have heard vodafone are one of the worst for keeping the firmware up to date, but if you change the product code in the phone and it goes faulty at anytime, your warranty is void, so you just have to put up with the problems.

Re: Agree with other odd things happening

I will tell you why I blame the networks and not the Nokia for problems with branded firmware.

I have access to 2 N95 8gb's. The unbranded handset is trouble free while the Vodafone branded handset is not. They are worlds apart. Nokia has very little over the branding that the networks include into the firmware probably because it is in the conditions of purchase by the networks who buy in bulk. Some networks tamper more with the firmware than others.

With that branded N95 8gb, I literarily spent days ringing Vodafone support to get them to release firmware updates. Firstline Vodafone support usually tried to fob me off with "that is a Nokia issue. Ring N0kia". Because I knew better, I would insist and once actually ended up talking to the person who actually approved the updates. We had an interesting conversation where he more or less told me he as the only person in the department and that unless enough people asked for the updates, they would not bother approving it. He said for that reason they would not be approving anything beyond V21, and that's where we are still stuck at. I regret not taking down his name and number.

That is why I no longer buy network branded phones and always make sure I get a proper generic handset and not even a CPW sim free set or an unlock set from any other network. Only way to go is to buy directly from a Nokia Store. Best decision I ever made.  I log in here to listen to people complain about their branded handsets while mine are working fine. My only problem is Nokia do not have their own store in Ireland which means I have to buy my phones in the Nokia stores in the UK or elsewhere. I hope they open one soon or at least give us access to the online shop in the UK.

Re: Agree with other odd things happening

Hi,

This is my first post - and is due to the issue of speed limits!  This problem only occured after I updated my Nokia 5800XM to the latest maps (early last week).  However, I have tried every setting variety of km, miles etc and the problem still occurs ie the speed limit warning is way out from what is was before the update.  I make the same journey every day and the day before I updated - all was good. Afterwards, I got the 45mph warning while on the M27 motorway!

It looks like it is something about the UK map.

My solution pending a correction is to turn the warning off.  In every other respect the phone ( a debranded Vodafone) has worked brilliantly.

Re: Agree with other odd things happening: ATTENTION NOKIA PLEASE

I have the same.

All was well with MAPS 3 until I updated the firmware (took two attempts to get a working version!)). I needed to download and re-install MAps 3  and the map data files and........... Voila!

When set to imperial units I drive on a 70mph motorway and get a speed warning at 45 MPH, showing a limit of 45 mph!

In a 50 mph limit area, the warning is triggered at 30 mph!

Set the unit to metric and the numbers are right, but the displays are all shown in km and the speech instructions talk about kilometres and metres as well!!

Seems to me that someone in Nokia has not been awake when re-coding this section of the software or has accidentally pulled in some old bugged code.

Re: Agree with other odd things happening: ATTENTION NOKIA PLEASE

So this part of Maps 3.01.09wk44b01 was tested very thoroughly we can all see.

Same story for me. N96, latest map data, latest Maps 3 as above. Besides other issues (rebooting phone issues and the Setting->Navigation menu crash issue) I found this one also. So the speed warning isnt looking at what the current "system of measurment" is set to in order to display the correct values - which it did in previous versions.

Not impressed Nokia - add this to my other issues and Im wondering why Im bothering. Somebody should loose their job over this latest release and all its issues. Not the developers - but the individual responsible for making sure testing is done properly before beta or full release. These kind of issues are what you'd expect from an Alpha release!

Grrrrrr!!!!

Hey ish68,

Just had a thought. Do you have an old copy of you cities folder from the good old betalabs testing days.

It may be worth trying using that back-up to verify if the issue is limited to the latest map data downloads.

Re: Speed limits for roads in maps 3 and traffic updates still no good

I have also started to experience speed limit warnings when traveling over 45 mph on the M4, since upgrading to the latest maps version! As mentioned elsewhere on this thread there seems to be a piece of bad code which has found its way into the latest build which is converting miles to km per hour the wrong way round when calculating speed limits!

RE: Speed limit issues PRT2

Following on from post 153.

I have now backed-up my "Cities" folder and "QF" file before updating to the latest map dat via Map Loader, following which I witnessed teh speed limit issue too.

I then deleted the new "Cities" folder and "QF" file and re-installed the back-up I had of my earlier ones (from c. early August, I believe).

When I repeated the route again the speed limits were correct again. I therefor advise everyone without this issue not to update their map data until this has been sorted as it is a Map Data issue and not an Application issue.

I did this testing on an N97 (Voda UK branded (Product Code: 0585262)) with v20.0.019 FW installed and the latest BETA of Maps 3.03.
