It has now been almost 6 months since cbidlake's response, and about 11 months since contact search was removed from Maps. It still hasn't returned.
Every once in a while I read these forums, and chuckle to myself at how I used to be such an avid Nokia supporter. My fiancee's been rocking her Nexus One for several months now, and now it's official: I'm done with Nokia. Heck even Nokia no longer believes in its leadership, why should I?
Anyone want to buy a Nokia 5800? Mine is the unlocked, unbranded international version running v50. So far it has gotten all firmware updates first, before the other variants.
I appreciate all the help I've gotten while I've been here, and good luck to those of you continuing to support Nokia! ![]()

My God,
This is amazing. I cannot find an address (my own) by using the "so called Universal Search" button on my E52 or my Navigator. The option for find by address is gone.
I have always used Nokia. Hell, I even forced my family and friends to use Nokia phones. My girlfriend is using her HTC for a month (with offline maps) and loving it. I can see the charm too.
Another rant: My Nokia 5300 music phone never played any music. It just crashed every time. I had to install an application by some young Russian kid to get the player to work. My emails to support were never answered.
I will never buy a Nokia again. Its HTC, or android or Apple, maybe even Microsoft phones from now on. No more money to these idiots.
My first and hopefully, my last post. If any Nokia support employees have any decency or dedication to their job, maybe someone might email me and explain why their phones do not work.

I love bringing this thread back up, because it shows how laughable the ovi maps team's commitment is to their own product.
It's now been over 11 months since cbidlake's "solution", and 15 months since the geniuses at beta labs removed contact search, and they still haven't figured out how to add it back in. ![]()
They've put in SO much other stuff (seriously, who books anything through Expedia via Ovi Maps), that I really wonder why they can't do contacts search.

To cbidlake / Cris
No, apparently you do not "realise how important this function is".
Just got a N97mini without
- a button in contacs to navigate to the address
- a chance to select a contact as destination
- an up-to-date firmware
My HTCP3300 (2006) with TomTom was able to do that
PLEASE - we are needing/waiting for this feature (and no one frequently navigating to customers will recommend or buy a Nokia again).

I actually thought it was me being a bit dense, and I couldn't find this function. You see I couldn't believe it wasn't there you, so I kept looking. Then I thought it had to do with some **bleep** with the Ovi Accounts, but I couldn't imagine they (Nokia) would. Now I see it's not me.
Fancy having a N8 and having a missing feature like this.

In version 3.04 this feature is still not available. I know about the way to edit addresses like Maxjonimus discribed, but it is from my point of view not realy a work around.
It is very importent that Nokia adds the option to edit addresses or to choose contact from the address book in every section of searches. Otherwise I fear about the acceptance of this great and free software.

As of version 3.06, Maxjonimus 's workaround no longer works either, since the "address" option is gone from the choices for added a route point.
Like so many other things Nokia is making things continually worse instead of better.
Are the that incompetent or simply completely clueless? Either way it's sad to see Nokia fall seemingly irrecoverably behind the times.
As of June 2011 Nokia's Symbian Nav app is THE ONLY current one that cannot navigate to or find a contact address. All other smartphone platforms (iOS, 'droid, WM 6, 6.5) and connected Navis (TomTom since the now ancient Go 910, All Garmin Nüvis, Navigon, Falk, Michelin, Medion) can do it.
Only Nokia was thick enough to actually PULL that feature after it previously existed.
That is just BEYOND sad.

That is a bummer. I definitely may consider moving an android or iphone now ......
Symbian was such a great OS in the past and I was a software developer at HP that created print drivers for the nokia communicator.

There's a more 'logical' approach in Maps 3.06 and later.
Open your addressbook, find the contact from there. If there's address-data filled-in then click on the adress-field (Find on Map).
It will start Maps and fill-in the address-details in the input-line, press green OK-sign (bottom left) and there you go.
The same works with your agenda. If an address is filled-in then it'll go from the agenda directly to the maps-application. It works great. Much better then from the POI-database like most navigation-software do.
A nice trick is the following:
After the above when you go back to the map. You get a black bar with the selected location. If you click on that bar, a menu appears (where you normally select 'drive to'). Just choose the first item 'Choose', repeat this action again. Then maps will end and your map-coordinates will be entered into the addressbook. The little icon (which was previously grey will become green with a red pin).
Next time you go to that contact again and press 'find on map' it will directly go to the address instead o/t input-line from now on.
Oh I use a C7-00. I have 2 C7's they both do this (one is upgraded with latest Anna the other not).

The problem is that many phones cannot be updated with version 3.06, we are stuck with 3.03 and still no sign of a solution, which we cannot expect to materialise now! But this one will surely go down in history as an epic failure, and I dread to think how many people have lost confidence in Nokia as a result.
There is just one place that they forgot to delete the address search option. If you search for a place as normal, then 'Add to route' rather than 'Drive to' you can then 'Add new route point' and use 'Address'. Just use your first route point as somewhere on route, or where you are now, or any other place and delete it afterwards. Might sound complex but it is easy really and works well.
