I know the free license for S60 3rd edition, Feature Pack 1 devices haven't come yet
(except for E71 and E66). But nokia can give our poor old devices working on FP1 free navigation license for life time.
As they used to provide free voice guided navigation for free for a week (or 7 days). So the same way they could provide our devices with free navigation for lifetime
if they can’t make new version of maps then.
The OVI maps 3.0 works flawlessly in N82, N95. If nokia somehow decides to give the activation key for lifetime navigation then we all users would be very grateful.
So anybody who likes this post could support me and please give kudos to me
..
We can mail this post to nokia and if they listens poor chap’s cry then we would also be among the ones using free navigation in our phones!
Cheers..![]()

Nope, the price isn't the matter here. The matter is about injustice with older models especially the flagship model N95 of year 2006.
Doesn't nokia care about their earlier flagships chum?

So where does the buck stop? It is nothing to do with not caring about older phones. They have to draw the line somewhere. 4 years is a long time when it comes to things like this. I bought a laptop last year with Vista. I don't think any amount of persuasion on my part will get me a free Windows 7 upgrade even though if I had bought the same laptop 3 months later, it would have been shipped with Windows 7.
Anyway, at the end of the day, I own an N95-2 so I know how you feel. But fair is fair. This free license was not part of the deal when I made the conscious decision to buy this phone so I don't expect anything. However, just like you, it would be a nice gesture on Nokia's part if they did back port it to the N95's.

Yeah you are right
! i think now i should get another cheap phone out there like 5230 or so
. This phone will let me get the free navigation too. And my older phone would do other things which 5230 couldn't do it.
Even if i want to get license for my N82 so whats the tariff plans of it?
Ok, could you tell me why couldn't i get 3D landmarks in my maps "Nokia_Maps_3.01_2602_3.1"?
Doesn't this version support 3D landmarks?

You both have a point there. But you know how it feels.
12-Apr-2010 03:03 PM
Like I said earlier, I also have an N95 so I know how it feels.
You will see the new much reduced license fees when you try to purchase the license. They are in around €10 per region per yer and €3 per region per month. A typical region would be like all of Europe or all North America.
3D landmarks are actually in the map data and is only available for some but not all urban areas and cities. Try downloading the map data for London and you should see it.

I think it's more about principals. I have an E75, wich is not a too old and not a too cheap model (especially compared to E71, which already has free navigation). So, I do think, that other devices, especially with built-in GPS deserve free navigation. And I also think that the yearly subscription is ridiculous. Tell the price, buy the product, and use it as long as you can. Is there anyone else in the navigation market with monthly or yearly subscription? Don't think so, because it wouldn't work.

@fgabesz - we're talking about s60 3.1 devices. Your e75 is a 3.2 device. Nokia likely just rolled out the e71 first due to all the whining people.

Hoping You are right, but I keep trying for a few months now to get some correct answer from nokia about the planned extension of the free license (of course, primarily concerning about the E75). Only misty answers. And I still think that older (not too old) devices deserve the navigation possibility. I bought my phone 6 months ago, and I'm not planning to buy another for about 1,5 years, and I think that I payed at least as much (but rather more) as another consumer, who bought an E52 3 months ago. So, among quite a few other Nokia owner, I also feel that I am negatively discriminated. And I do think that the license price is still high. Someone mentions 9 euro for a yearly license, but in Hungary at this moment the price is nearer to 75 euro. Check how much does a middle-class Garmin navigation device cost with complete European map.

I think you should check again because the license fees were recently reduced substancially to around €10 per year for the whole of Europe.

I checked it right now. Through T-Mobile the one year licence is 17500 HUF (66 Euro) for version 2.0. 10 Euro would be somewhat OK. And of course, free would be absolutely OK.
And a question: I have Map version 3.01, and in the hungarian Nokia page there's no way to buy licence for 3.01 version. Only 2.0 and former versions. What to do if I decide to buy the licence? Thank You.

You should do purchase the license directly from Nokia from your phone. Your phone will need to connect to the internet to check prices and purchase the license so make sure you are witing range of your wifi if you don't want to incur any network data charges.

Since the cost of voice navigation license has been reduced remember to factor in with OVI Maps that map data renewed 3 - 4 times a year free of charge and that if used "Offline" ther need not be data download bills either; it maybe a different business model, but not necessarily working to your disadvantage.
