Previous problems: crashed memory card with maps on it
Target: Download maps on phone memory (new memory card not installed)
Problem: Nokia Map Loader keep showing message "Waiting for device".
Previously installed PC Suite and Map Loader. Started Map Loader and starter Nokia Maps application in Menu -> Maps.
What can be the problem? Maybe I need to install memory card first, install Nokia Maps on memory card and then download?

Maps have to be installed on the memory card. You will need a memory card before you can proceed.

got memory card, reinstalled nokia maps, but still map loader says "waiting for device" and nothing. Nokia maps launched on my device. Several times reinstalled nokia maps and map loader.

You have to run Maps at least once with the new card memory card inserted. Following this you should see a new folder called "cities" created on the memory card.

After this you should be able to access the memory card directly using Map Loader. Remember to connect the phone in Data Transfer mode if you are using Map Loader V1.x and pcsuite mode if you are using Map Laoder v2.0.

Obviously you have let the Nokia Map Loader update itself to a newer version 2.0.2, as I just did today when I accidentally started it, and accidentally let it update itself.

In the new Map Loader version you're supposed to connect the phone in PC Suite mode, not in Data Transfer mode as in previous Map Loader versions. At least this is what the help file claims.

However, the new Map Loader doesn't work for me either. Its just showing the "Waiting for device", no matter how long I wait. No matter what the connection mode, Map Loader won't find any of my phones. PC Suite can find the phones just fine!

It seems that the Nokia Maps guys screwed this Map Loader release really bad...

My advice would be: Do not let Map Loader update itself to the newer 2.0.2 version, if you want to load any maps to your phone!

Somehow I was able to connect to N82 by map loader. But I'm still confused how I did it, because I did exactly the same as before.))))
It must me some bug in program.

There is nothing wrong with Map Loader V2.0.2. I have just used it with 3 different phones and it worked fine.

Just delete all in folder named Private via data transfer. You should enable view hidden folders (in windows folder options) to be able to se Private...

After deleting Private foder, disconnect and connect again via PC Suite mode and run Map loader

I have same problem, when connecting my phone (in PC suite mode) to Nokia Map Loader V2.0.2, it keeps saying: "Waiting for Device" and do Nothing! I have tried this with different phones: Nokia N95 8GB, E90 and Nokia 6110 navigator. And faced same problem with all of them!
I deleted Private folder as you said but it didn't help at all. I uninstalled and installed Map loader several times but seems this version of map loader(v2.0.2) is so **bleep**py that nothing works with it
Has any body have an idea which may help?

Ver. 2.0.2 Same problem with my N73 (waiting for device) but after deleting the folder "Private" all ok.

I still can't download any map though...
When I choose a country's map and hit download, a window for downloading the map pops up, but after a while I get the message: "An unexpected error occured. Sorry. Please try again later"

Any ideas???

Ver. 2.0.2 Same problem with my N95 (waiting for device) but after deleting the folder "Private" all ok.

Even the download went well - seems deleting the Private folder in Storage mode is a critical part.
Also that ver 2.x works in PC Suite mode.

Original N95 here. I just updated to V2.0.2 but got the same 'Waiting for Device' message. Tried several times using PC Suite connection. Eventually, Maploader said the phone didn't have PC Suite support installed - which it does because PC Suite works otherwise.

Then I tried Data Transfer mode and Maploader immediately found my memory card and started working.

Just Installed Map Loader, and all I get is the dreaded "Waiting For Device" message. Tried reinstalling Map Loader at least three times, tried switching from PC Suite mode to Data Transfer Mode and still it refuses to cooperate.

Clearly this piece of software doesn't work, and should be removed from Nokia's download site - it's a pile of **bleep**!

Have just upgraded to ver.2.02 from 2.0. due to auto update no choice really

Experiencing same problems as you describe, (waiting for device) plus runtime error appears if phone is connected in data mode. Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library, Runtime error program: C:\Program Files\Nokia\Nokia Map Loader\map loader.exe abnormal program termination

Please advise on deleting "Private folder" in storage Mode?

I also would like assistance with finding the "private" folder. The only way I can find the memory card "E:" drive is via PC Suite "File Manager" (using bluetooth). If I try connecting my USB cable & selecting "storage mode" then all I can access is my phone memory.

I'm getting quite frustrated as I've also reloaded & unloaded the software heaps of times... and wish I didn't load the latest map loader (no choice, new laptop)

Seems i've solved my own problem by trial & error.

I turned off the bluetooth connection (don't think that made any difference) & connected my USB cable directly into my laptop instead of the docking unit. Then I copied across the file structure (don't know if that made any difference, thought i was downloading the maps too but the directories were empty)... but it still wasn't working. This morning I connected the USB & selected the storage mode, and am now in the middle of downloading the maps! Tho I'm sure I tried storage mode as well as PC Suite mode last night....

Hi Boop

Hope you have if fixed; I have taken a slightly different approach. When upgrading any software from any company I always save the updates to a separate area in My Downloads this way when the latest update fails (as they invariably do at some stage). Yes this means not properly checked before dispatch to the big wide world, hope all you software engineers out there are listening. NOW GO AND TELL YOUR BOSS… there is a 100,000 customers who have problem with the latest release oy your softwareand I hope he has the same problem too. :-(
