Hi gui94
If you won't give the Assisted GPS feature a network internet connection albeit to download 7 kb of data then your first fix is going to take longer to achieve and would suggest you go outside away from tall buildings preferably with clear view of sky.
The position achieved using the Network GPS (cell tower location) can sometimes be well off the mark unfortunately but not usually by that much and then you will get a "Black ring" around the centre when locked on to position at which time you will see next to satellite icon green bars instead of yellow.

I've been reading these forums and I think all you people that have to wait ages to get a poor GPS signal on their 5800 are just plain LUCKY!
I've had a 5800 almost a week. And I can't get a single satellite bar.
I'm just so incredibly disappointed. This device is rubbish, basically. I only shelled out for it because I wanted a phone with GPS, and it simply doesn't work. I've studied the manuals, which are confusing - I'm only a theoretical physicist by training - and I've scanned the forums. Nothing works.
Any ideas?
PS I only have a bog-standard GSM signal here in Belgium, so I turned off A-GPS to simplify matters. Didn't help.

Check your firmware version. FW V11 caused (very) long GPS lock times. FW V20 or V21 wil fix this. With V20 you should have a GPS lock within 2 minutes (and much faster with A-GPS).

Many thanks for the tip - I wonder how on earth I could have missed something so obvious.
But the bad news is that the software version is V21.0.025
So a firmware upgrade will not help.
Am preparing a video for YouTube comparing my PalmVx, ten years old and still going strong, with this overpriced, underfunctional waste of cash that can't even categorise tasks or notes!
