Thanks to everyone who has reported their problems to us here on the forums. It has really helped us find some of these issues so we can fix them. Here is an exhaustive list of all of the installation problems we know about. The maps team is working to make sure that future updates go a lot more smoothly and your feedback has been invaluable.
Symptom: Phone crashes when I try to start the new version of maps.
Devices Affected: Maps 3.04 installed
Solution: If you have Joikuspot Premium, update it to version 3.0. If you do not have Joikuspot premium, please contact Nokia Customer service.
Explanation: There is a good chance that an issue in Joikuspot Premium, which was discovered after the launch of Maps 3.04, is causing the problem. This issue causes Ovi Maps to crash when wifi positioning is enabled on your device.
Symptom: My phone is supposed to get free navigation, but after I install the new firmware, I am still asked to buy a license.
Devices Affected: Nokia 6720, N86
Solution: Either use the Software Updater application on your device to update to the latest version of maps or use your app manager to uninstall files on your C drive called Nokia Maps and Ovi Maps.
Explanation: The new version of maps that comes with the firmware update is not properly replacing the old version. A few files from the old application are still on the phone. The Software Updater application will properly install the latest version of free navigation. Removing the files from the C drive will allow the version of Ovi Maps in the firmware to function.
Symptom: "Access denied" error
Devices Affected: Unsupported devices
Solution: Unfortunately, Ovi Maps will not work with every device. Check the compatibility list to see if your phone can get free navigation. If your phone is supposed to have free navigation, but you are still getting the "access denied" error, please leave a comment here to help us discover why. Type *#0000# into your device to find some information we need. Send us the model of phone you have, the RM code (labeled "Type" on the phone's information screen), product code (labeled "code" under the battery), your firmware version, and the version of maps you were trying to install. Put "Access denied" in the subject line of your post.
Explanation: We are not able to support every device, though we do our best to offer Ovi Maps to as many of our customers as we can.
Symptom: "Not compatible" error
Devices Affected: any
Solution: Update your device's firmware. If you have the latest firmware, but your phone is still not compatible with Ovi Maps, it might be that your phone operator has imposed a variant that prevents you from doing so.
Explanation: You need to update your firmware to be able to install the new Ovi Maps. Some operator variants do not yet allow for the free Maps installation. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Symptom: Not enough memory on C drive
Devices Affected: any, but especially N97
Solution: The only solution to this problem is to clear space on C by deleting or moving applications. It is also helpful to configure other applications to use drives other than C for their storage.
Explanation: Ovi Maps has to do a lot of work very quickly so it needs to be installed on C, or it would be too slow. It is not possible for Maps to work properly if installed on other drives. Unfortunately, some devices do not have a lot of space on their C drives and we are not able to change this fact. We are always looking at ways to make the application smaller while still giving you all the cool features you need.
Symptom: Using Maps Updater, you get the error message, "Cannot get enough information about the phone."
Devices Affected: Some Symbian 3 devices
Solution: Do not use Maps Updater to update Ovi Maps. This tool is no longer supported. Please remove the application from your PC and go to Nokia.com to get your installation file.
Explanation: Installation of Ovi Maps has been simplified since the first release of free navigation. This tool is no longer supported.
Symptom: You got the installation file sometime in June from the Nokia website, but it will not install.
Devices Affected: All Symbian 3 devices
Solution: Wait for the new .sis file to be published to the website and then try the installation again. The file will begin to be available by the end of June but may take longer to deploy to some regions.
Explanation: The file on the Nokia website was corrupted and is in the process of being replaced. Please try again. We apologize sincerely for the frustration this error caused you.
Symptom: "No disk inserted" error
Devices Affected: some China variant
Solution: Insert a memory card into your phone before you install Ovi Maps.
Explanation: A few devices require a memory card for the installation of Maps.
Symptom: error -5
Devices Affected: any
Solution:
The following items could be reasons why the installation via SW Update failed:
We strongly propose to remove the old Maps and re-install the Ovi Maps 3.04 again and let us know if this solves the issue.
Explanation: There can be several reasons for this error, e.g. data packets have been lost during downloading, lack of device memory or problems in replacing the earlier Maps version.
For any issues not listed here, whether it be installation or usability, please check out FAQs.
