I just downloaded the free Maps .sis for the E55 after giving my mobile number to the Nokia Maps site. Can anyone check if it will install on N95 or N82, N79 etc? Since E55 is FP2, I am hoping atleast it should work on N79.
I have uploaded it here -

PS. If they are doing it, I agree it is completely unfair on Nokia's part to deliberately sabotage support for all phone models.

For those who would like to try it, please note that Maps v 3.03 seems to be a mess... as indicated here -
/discussions/board/message?board.id=navigation&thr
I think it was my duty to specify that! If you still want to try it please go ahead... and please let us know if it works with any other mobiles than the ones currently listed in the 3.03 download URL!

No its not working on E71.
First you get a warning like "incompatible phone, continue anyway?"
Later on it aborts with error code "unknown error -12".
Im happy my old 3.01 installation is still working after this experiment ;-)
Maybe somewhere in the future E71 is supported, but not right now.

I wish you guys would stop hyperventilating and read the press release:
I realize from your posts that many of you have problems with reading comprehension, so let me give you my take on this:
Nokia plans to offer Maps 3.03 to all GPS phones in the near future. 10 phones were supported at launch (4 in NA), but others will be added periodically.
I have heard rumors that say Nokia plans to have all GPS phones supported by March. It seems like they could easily accomplish this right now, but I suppose they are phasing it in gradually so they will not overwhelm their network. They've got approximately 80 million GPS enabled phones, so theoretically, the GPS using world could grow by 400 percent overnight were they to support all GPS phones at launch.
It would be nice to have this now, but I have had my E71 for over a year and never even thought about the GPS functionality. We can all wait a few more months. Calm down!

Willengage,
this is a reasonable comment , I hope that March is a right clue about the next phones with free navigation to be added. Yet, I doubt overloading of the GPS telephone usage is the real issue.
It is pitty how not all customers are threated the same way or at least customers with telephones of a same price range, functionality and a same class .

The online connection is required to do 1 of 2 things :1) check the Maps server for a possible free navigation licenses (depends on the device and package purchased)
2) Make a purchase of a navigation license to allow purchase.
Chris
How about you give us FREE LICENCES because we paid a **bleep**load of money for these extra expensive phones. And I don't intend to buy "navigation licence" based on your arrogant comments here, just to have what everybody have for free.
And NO, I will not buy another new expensive phone just to be "privileged'. I shall use Nokia E71 for 5 years from now. How about this marketing strategy, Nokia?

Guys...
All Nokia phones built till date will support free Ovi Maps.
Try understanding it from a broader perspective- Phone's with latest kind of symbian firmware have been supported initially. To get this Maps 3.0.3 to be compatible with older Symbian firmwares is a huge task as the UI needs to be maintained. This process can take anywhere between 2 to 3 weeks. Sooner or later your E71, E66, N97 and all Nokia phones with GPS would get new maps. FOR FREE.
Hold on till then without criticizing Nokia unnecessarily.

If Nokia's intention is really to give access to the free version to FP1 users, why not communicate clearly on that? instead of continuing to require payment for a version that will be free in some weeks?
Are they requiring payment though? I thought they have pulled the ability to purchase licenses - so anyone with a none 3.0.3 phone now can't use the navigation funcionality at all
This really has been very poorly managed by Nokia, and what should of been a great story for them is showing signs of being a major mess.

As mentioned above this is a great message from Nokia but they have got people excited in the hype and completely missed a clear explanation of what, who and when by.
It does seem we will all get supported eventually but by telling everyone they will get free navigation for life without explaining the phasing has clearly upset some of the users. I spent ages trying to download the free maps onto my phone only to find after lots of digging through the website that my phone is not initially compatible. If the messaging had been more clear in the first instance I woould have been less **bleep** off!

That Maps v3.03 will take a while to roll out to all phones is completely understandable. There are a lot of devices out there and each one will no doubt have it's own set of problems. Rolling out bit by bit therefore makes sense because it allows the support and patching teams to focus on a few devices at a time rather than the whole lot.
But what I completely don't understand is this... What on earth has that got to do with OviMaps being free?
OviMaps is a product that Nokia are now claiming to be free. We're not talking about a new piece of software here, not a new rebranding exercise, not really new functionality (I'm sure there is some, but that's not what people are clamouring for). We're talking about OviMaps, an application that's already installed on most of our phones, now being free for turn-by-turn voice navigation.
We already have OviMaps with turn-by-turn voice navigation, but we currently have to pay for licences for the premium services. We're now told that turn-by-turn navigation is free. So you would expect that you no longer have to have licences, or that those licences should be free.
If OviMaps is now being marketed as free, then it should be free now - irrespective of version. Otherwise, Nokia should produce a different product name for the free mapping application.

Everyone is continually **bleep** at Nokia.
They offer softwrae, but lock it to only very new phones as a way to entice you to have to buy a new phone.
Advise - Get a Google Android phone that is unlocked, and say adios to Nokia

Nokia maps is already installed on every nokia.
1. Why cant a universal license code or an individual one be given to those people who want it it till matters are sorted out.
2. The ovi suite can offer the new maps as an upgrade
3. I FEEL CHEATED AS THE OWNER OF AN E71 AND AN N95 .
4. A lot of hype was created about offering navigation for free in all the press releases.
5. In case Nokia doesn't do something about this very soon. I personally who have been a hard core nokia loyalist will never buy a Nokia again.
6. I would rather pay more money than be hoodwinked in such a manner.
7. I hope all other Nokia loyalists will also take a tough stance such as this to make the guys at Nokia think twice before issuing misleading press releases.
Thanks

I feel cheated now. Nokia should have released the license for Nokia E71 & 72 simultaneously.
The brand has told everyone that E71 users are now good for nothing. We all should have taken blackberry or android (google has released voice guidance some months back)...
Trust me... I am feeling the pain to have a nokia E71.

I was just in this threat to see if anyone just had downloaded the new Maps for the E72 on their E71 to see if it works.. But instead of a technical debate I see people **bleep**! Crist stop complaining people!
Nokia have now been nice enough to tell us they are going to make it free to use the navigator. The Navigator license is now ready for 10 phones and soon the E71 as well as other phones will follow. I’m amazed how righteous people feel when they said that Nokia had their money for 10 years or that they always had Nokia but that changes since they can’t have the free license now now now!
Stop crying like a spoiled child :womansad: and get out of here, so we can have some proper tech debate.
Do you think Nokia sees you as a returning customer if you have all your phones for 5 years?
Btw the reason I’m a bit unhappy with my E71 is that the screen is too small, the keyboard to small and that there is no touch screen. But the sound and the navigation stuff is excellent.
