I had Ovi Maps working up to coples of days ago.
Used Nokia Map Loader 3.0.28 to get maps because OVI Suite is just a huge bag of bugs compared to PC suite.
Today I had to update the maps on the phone and Map loader started with "a new version is available update?" or the like but answering yes all you get is "An unexpected error occurred. Try again. Sorry for the Inconvenience". The the application starts and what you get, instead of the list of available maps is an empty application screen.
Nice behaviour....
Then I've tryed to update the software on the phone itself... everything was OK, since it deleted also my old maps on the device and then tryed to use the wonderful "wi-fi" update feature of the nev version 3.06(637). Unfortunately after downloading the list of available maps the application says: map downlad error, without even try to actually dowload anything (measured through network sniffer) of course the phne has the latest firmware 52.0.007.
I'm using nokia maps since when it was licensed and then everything worked fine. If I have to waste days just to get updates for a free tool maybe I'll spend less buying a device that is properly supported and functional since I value my time a lot.

Delete the 'Cities' Folder and the 'qf' file from the phone.. Browse for them thru' Windows Explorer after connecting your phone to PC...Then open the Maps application on the phone and after afbout 10-15 seconds close it.. Retry downloading the Maps...

Just a couple of observations in that firstly, you do not have the latest version of Ovi Maps installed upon your 5800XM which is v3.06 (688) available here:http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/global/phones/
Secondly, if all else fails there is nothing to stop you downloading latest map set 0.2.44.110 data manually and implementing should procedure by farby fail for some reason.
