Not accurate?

Hi,

I just installed Europe on my 5800 XM.

Everything works fine but it's not accurate. I'm sitting at home and the navigation position (the red dot) places me about 25 meters away from my home.

I did install the driver update first, version 40. something.

Is there a way to calibrate it yourself?25 meters off can be a pain in Belgium because by that time you already passed the road you need.

I also have Garmin installed and that is accurate.

Re: Not accurate?

If you are inside your house, it may simply be a case of the phone not getting the signals properly due to it being enclosed (walls and ceiling). Please remember that the phone's GPS antenna is smaller than those on dedicated devices (actually I think about 1/3 of the size) and that it uses less power for the GPS function, so there are limitations on how well it can perform under certain circumstances, and inside buildings is hardly ideal for it.

Re: Not accurate?

I tried it outside today, well in the car where it's suppose to work, and it's still the same, position is off by ±25 meter. I think it has something to do with the map settings so it'll probably be up to Nokia to fix it, or add a new function so you can calibrate it yourself.

Re: Not accurate?

Hmm, odd. Mine says my position quite accurately. I'll try to see settings. But I feel it could be some  installation error on your phone or triangulation error.

Re: Not accurate?

GPS receivers are accurate to within 15 meters on average.

and thats for a dedicated unit not a phone .

U.S. Air Force deactivated the software that degrades the Global Positioning System signal, upgrading civilian GPS receivers from an unaugmented accuracy of about 100 meters to roughly 10 meters. The new software allows the U.S. to block the precision navigation signals within selected regions, while offering the improved signal service everywhere else. The military continues to use an encrypted, highly accurate version of the signal, for guiding precision weaponry.

All my phone mapping systems are about 10- 15 meters out .

Re: Not accurate?

I know gps was a militairy application with a build-in ?inaccuracy? But the 25 meter I have now is alot worse then I should have. Garmin is installed on the same cellphone and that is more accurate so there must be an issue with the ovi maps software, the calibration or the European map.
