I had a topic about this in the beta forum, but since I didn't get further replies and 3.0 graduated, I'll move it here.
http://betalabs.nokia.com/forum/topic/3031
Since I'm not able to use the Maps updater, is there a manual way I can use to completely uninstall maps 3.0 and start the install over?
Thanks.

quite easy to uninstall the Maps application. for Series60 3rd edition Feature Pack 2 phones, this is the method (should be similar for other models too): goto the Menu, then Applications > Application manager. goto Installed apps., then select Uninstall on the License Manager and Ovi Maps entries.
if you cannot use the Maps Updater application, then you can Google for the offline download of Ovi Maps 3.0. on Symbian-guru.com, there are the versions for S60 3rd Edn FP2, and S60 5th edition, but you will have to Google for the S60 3rd Edn FP1 version (i.e. for N82, N95 etc).
please throw some kudos our way, it would mean a lot to us
If you found this or someone's comments helpful or like what that person has to say, please give some Kudos to their post!

@adrianhughes: unfortunately it's not that simple to uninstall this application. If you check in App. manager, you'll see you can only uninstall License Manager, Ovi Maps doesn't appear on that list (is one of the built-in apps).
@kyle6879: the only way to revert back on 2.0 version is to perform a hard reset by typing in *#7370# and then enter the Lock code (default is 12345 if you haven't changed it). Before this operation, make sure you backup all of your data from the internal memory using Nokia PC Suite.

In fact I was able to find Nokia Maps on the uninstall menu. I uninstalled a little hesitantly knowing it is one of the default applications.
The maps icon did not disappear from the menu, but clicking on it gives a prompt to install the latest version of Maps.
I don't know then, all seems well. We'll see what happens once I get to try if the Updater can now recognize my phone having done the reinstall.

@dj_nick: as kyle6879 said, you can uninstall Maps 3.0 as there is an entry in the App Manager, as it is not built into the firmware but is rather a new application installed over the top of Maps 2.0. true that a hard reset would revert back to Maps 2.0, but uninstalling it from the App Manager will also do the same thing as has happened.
@kyle6879: let us know how it goes with the Maps, hopefully will work better for you this time

Sorry to say adrian that dj_nick is also right. It depends on the phone. On the N95 8Gb you have to downgrade to Nokai Maps 2 if you have a sis file and then upgrade again and this is the same on the N97. The only other option on these phones and some others is to reset the phone and tehn upgrade again. Messy. Very Messy. Has been known to kill licences during the beta phase aswell.
Long and short of it is adrianhughes is correct for some phones and dj_nick is correct for others.

Thanks mbrett, AFAIK N95 8Gb runs on the same OS like N82 (Symbian v9.2 rel. 3.1), so your App Manager in N95 8Gb should be the same as mine, lacked of any Ovi maps entry. Am I right?

Its the same in the Applicaition Manager on both my N95 8GB and my N97. Maps is not uninstallable on these models. You have to downgrade and then upgrade again.
This can be done in two ways as discussed in my previous post.

About the licenses, you could have a problem
I had a problem with my license, after I contacted openbit to solve it. On the reply there was:
"after using the license in Maps 3.0 it will not work anymore with Maps 2.0."

The big question is what phone does kyle have, as uninstall and re-install is phone based?

Hi guys
Thanks for all your replies, sorry I haven't been following up on this. I forgot about Maps for a while as I started to use Google Maps which always works like a charm without problems.
For the record, the whole Nokia PC Suite and Maps loader thing bluntly said looks like a one big nerve-wrecking screw-up!
I'm still having major problems even connecting the phone to PC Suite (which is 5800 by the way, mentioned in the post liked to the first post). I have tried the following steps two times now.
I've run PC Suite cleaner and started over after reboot.
Run the PC Suite installer and after a while, in the connectivity driver stage once the phone is plugged in, start to get all these typical Windows installer dialogues. How to react to them is documented NOWHERE in the PC Suite installation instructions by the way!
Now things start to go wrong. No matter which selections I make, I see Windows balloons advisind me it is installing all kinds of things, MTP Drivers and such. At some point PC Suite stops responding normally, complains about USB connection problems. Windows driver installation fails too.
The only way to get things moving is to unplug and replug the USB on the phone a few times - that way I can get the install to finish somehow.
Now, sometimes when I plug in, PC Suite recognises my phone, sometimes not. I don't see the picture of a 5800 in the PC Suite menu anymore, instead a "generic" nokia model.
PC Suite complains that I need to reinstall PC Suite Support on my phone. When I try it, it just responds "PC Suite installation failed." Great.
Result: I can't perform any tasks, not to even mention Map Updater, using PC Suite. Even backup is not possible as it claims it can't find anything to back up on my phone.
Apparently this is all due to PC Suite f***ing up the driver and support file installation time and time again.
I don't know what try do anymore.

Ok. So now I've done the following:
Installed Ovi Suite beta - installation was quick, easy and flawless compered to PC Suite by the way, but I'm not sure it uninstalled PC Suite as it was supposed to?
Ovi suite's more precise error messages allowed me to track a problem in the USB connection, which was being cut for some reason. I removed a couple of other USB devices and switched to another port in case it was a USB problem on my machine. I'm now finally able to stay connected.
The Maps updater inside Ovi Suite reported an update (3.0) available for my Maps, and it went through the installation without errors. However, try to start Maps on the phone, I get a system error.
I try the external Maps Updater application, again it reports update available, updates without error and try to start Maps - system error.
Now, I manage to do a backup using Ovi Suite, install the latest v30 firmware to my 5800, 7370 reset, restore - same result opening maps -System error. Google Maps does not work anymore either - damn!
What next guys, at least we're getting SOMEWHERE ![]()
