Re: Navigation on your Nokia. Free. Forever.

So, If I read well about nokia n97, that will be a brand new software for phone, or just new version of Maps?

Re: Navigation on your Nokia. Free. Forever.

Tested on N97 (using the direct download file for the N97 mini) and I see there is still no 'Add from Contacts' option when searching for an address, which Maps 2 and the original Maps 3 had. Being able to use stored address information in your phone contacts is invaluable as I stated months ago on the Beta Labs forum, with out this feature the software is a pain to use and fails to fufill the potential of having Sat Nav software on your phone.

I've waited months to get this feature added back in, after using the Beta, just to discover it still isn't present. ???

Nokia, can you please comment on the reasons why this feature has been removed from the latest version of Maps?

Many thanks.

Hi Whoosh5800,

If a firmware update is not available for you past 31.x.xxx then it seems likely that you have Operator variant firmware installed on your device (for example Vodafone or Orange).

If this is the case, then unfortunately you will have to await the operator to release an update to this firmware :smileysad:

Kind Regards

Chris

All existing licenses remain valid. When they expire, you can download the new application from the Nokia Maps website (http://www.nokia.com/maps). Of course, you are also welcome to upgrade your Maps application right away in case you own a compatible mobile device. In that case, you will get increased coverage and length for the navigation feature.

By upgrading your Maps version to the latest Ovi Maps 3.03, you will even get more coverage (all regions in which navigation is supported) and an increase in length as you can use the navigation (both Drive and Walk) without time constraints!

Re: Navigation on your Nokia. Free. Forever.

I just uninstalled both 'nokia maps' and 'ovi maps' and then installed the update. And this time it worked fine.

Sorry for the posts, and thank you Nokia for a great application.

Re: Navigation on your Nokia. Free. Forever.

Daer cbidlake,

this is a little strange.

I pay 80€ for a license for 1 year (traffic + drive) and after 2 days i bought it nokia announces the new possibility of having my same license for free and even releases and update for nokia maps software.

Furthermore, if i theoretically wanted to download the new nokia maps software, as it probably functions better, my old license just disappears and de-facto is like i have never bought it and like i'm not using its services. Moreover nokia didin't pre-announce this new idea but was a breaking news which no one new about (and hence they probably ripped off other people who just now bought their new licenses) and nokia replies that i should keep my old software for nokia maps for 1year in order to fully use my license and then update to the new software (which is way better). This is ridiculous! I'm sorry but this doesn't make sense. Nokia, as a minimum, should at least give a discount for a nokia product or something like that.Commonthis is unbelievabl

@Woosh5800: Sorry to say you need to wait until it is provided for your phone. The limiting factor is your Product Code. This decides if you get an update and when. The Product codes identify you phone model, location and if it is branded to a network or not.
N97 (Product Code: 0585262 (Voda UK)) FW 12.0.026
95 8Gb (Product Code: 0558787 (UK)) FW 31.0.018

Maps 3.03 for the N97 is going to be available from the 28th Jan 2010 via the IAD (also kown as Software Update).

Users of the N97 are advised to update their firmware after release, which will then make the Ovi Maps 3.03 application available for download.

Probably just me, but are you saying that there will be a FW update on 28th Jan 2010 that needs to be installed before OVI MAps 3.03 will become available? Is the runoured v21FW for the N97 by any chance?

Also just to clarify are we saying that the release on 28th Jan will be the free services version or the standard version for teh N97?

Re: Navigation on your Nokia. Free. Forever.

Sorry if this has been asked before but what will happen with built in Maps users? I have a Nokia 6700 with maps and when you go into extra services, navigation still has to be purchased? Will I need a firmware update before this becomes free on this device....or will it never be free?

Hi mbrett,

There will be a firmware update available for the N97 on the 28th which will make available through the Software Update Maps 3.03 (the Free Version). I confess that i dont know if this is the v21 fw however.

I am afraid that Ovi Maps 3.03 is available only on selected devices running the Symbian S60 OS. (current listings will be expanded in the future)

The 6700 runs the S40 OS and so will not be able to make use of this release.

Done some more testing and it seems that following on from my earlier post, that you still can't even search for a full address. You could in the original version of Maps 3 (not beta), 2 and 1. Again, why has this feature been removed? I can only type in the first line of the address or the postcode, not both. Usually the first line of the address fails to bring up the correct address, and the postcode works, but fails to take me to the exact location.

I need to be able to type in a full address e.g. 303 nokia drive, nokia, N97 B4U, not just parts of it. Plus, there still isn't a feature to allow us to operate Maps in landscape mode when the global auto rotate is disabled.

These were the three big things I hated about the beta, and they are still not fixed. So many people over at beta labs pointed out these problems along with myself, and still we were ignored.

1) 'Add from Contacts' needs to be added back in.

2) Full address input needs to be added back in.

3) Landscape/Portrait toggle needs to be added.

This version seems more stable and so far seems to navigate well, with the exception of the ridiculas routes it takes me, but none of that matters if the above listed problems exist.

No wonder Nokia are making Navigation free, nobody in there right mind would purchase a license to run maps 3.03.

Another dissapointed Nokia user.

How about us, poor souls from the Balkans, namely Serbia?

I do have a 5800XM, FW is 40, but no +381 in the country selection box.

Any chance?

Re: Navigation on your Nokia. Free. Forever.

Speaking as an N85 user who has about 18 months of a paid contract with Nokia maps left to run I think the moral of the story is don't pay Nokia for a service as it will probably be free in a few months.

Hi,

The only thing i can suggest is to contact the Care line where they can look in to your request for a refund on an idividual basis.
