Yes, I agree with Luckycat. I have been using IGO8 and it's great. There are so many POI's, it's literally like having the phone book on you gps. Plus, there are map updates for IGo. So you can keep maps and poi's up to date.
I also doubt that there is new software from Nokia. They dumped this on the US market and left the consumer to fend for themselves. I'll never by another Nokia device again. But come to think of it, I would think the same could be said of all those other low end gps units. Will they have maps and poi updates available? I doubt it.

You must have bought from the same salesman as me! I bought a Nokia 500 at DG Electrics in Times Square Dubai. The salesman said that Nokia changed maps free of charge at least once a year and this was a major sales pitch as he also said that all other SatNav systems charged for each map and that these were expensive.
The other sales pitch was that the Nokia 500 could be used anywhere in the world and it was not necessary to buy additional maps. I specifically asked about using the Nokia 500 in Europe and was told that there was no problem and the system would work the same as Dubai.
It now seems that there is a problem. New maps do not appear to be available, none are being released and in order to use the Nokia 500 in Europe I need a License. The map works, but the navigation function is disabled.
This is a clear breach of the contract I made and Nokia should look into this from two aspects:
a. The sales information I was given. This is clearly wrong and the seller needs to be corrected.
b. Nokia need to live up to the promises that were obviously made to many people and release both the new maps and validate these to allow navigation.
Other than that the Nokia 500 is great. It worked extremely well in the Middle East and I had no complaints - until now.

Guys,
I would suggest you all to this nice and very useful website: http://nokia500.wetpaint.com/
to move to another map software and data.
I don't think Nokia will ever get back to this device to update its software and releave us all from this frustration. Its a good for nothing company. Will never grow up.
So, I would rather spend my time on the above website to move to a different software.
Thanks,
Deal Guru

Here is the answer. Even though Nokia stupidly makes this impossible to understand on their website, it is very easy to update your maps. Go here http://www.nokiausa.com/get-support-and-software/p
