Hi.
My Phone: E71 / Vodafone (Germany)
Just yesterday I went by on the nokia homepage and saw the offer for the free maps upgrade. So I downloaded maps updater, installed and ran it. It updated itself and started updating my map. After a while it said, it would erase my maps. Then it mentioned, that it would download updated maps, over 500MB. Unfortunately I was online with the help of a 3G UMTS stick and downloading would have taken over four hours. So I cancelled it.
Today connected over a cabled broadband connection and started updater again, but it said: "Missing telephone info: Could not read neither IMSI nor IMEI (20)." (Translated this message from German, but should fairly match ;-)
So it definetly erased my "old" maps, but now is not able any more to update to new maps!!
What to do to solve the issue?
Regards,
Martin.

Try this.
Using the file manager, delete the Cities folder and qf file from the memory card. Run Nokia at least once and then try to download the map data again.

Ok,
assuming that "run Nokia" should be "run Nokia Maps", did it.
Deleted the told files / folders, ran Nokia Maps. It claimed something that it has an invalid license.Entered the license code, I was given from Nokia. Went Online, some maps have been displayed. Closed "Nokia Maps". Ran Maps updater again - same message about that it is not able to read IMSI / IMEI.
Any more ideas?
Regards,
Martin.

Hm.
Resetting the phone is not quite an option, as I have stored quite a lot of data on it.
Any other option possible?

Hmm, one more thing comes to my mind:
Could it be a problem, that I have connected my E71 via Bluetooth and not via Cable?
Seems to me, that not all functions are available via Bluetooth (e.g. PC Suite can not inform me on incoming calls & SMS via Bluetooth, but via cable it can).
Regards, Martin.

Hi,
This error is given when NMU is not able, for some reason, to update the licenses to be compatible with 3.01.
It should not actually affect the download and installation of Maps 3.01.
What you will need to do, however, is update in My Licenses to convert any licenses to be compatible.

Hi Folks,
just wanted to give some feedback. It indeed seemd to be the connection. When working with the cable, I could update the maps again and it worked out properly. Just a petty, that connecting my E71 with my ThinkPad T60 pretty much consumes battery power! 8h of office connected with the cable consumes 30% of battery!!
Cheers,
Martin.

I was having the same problem on my E63. I eventually managed to solve the problem by:
1. uninstalling Maps from the phone via the Applications menu on the phone
2. reinstalling Maps with SIM card inserted in the phone and in General (ie connected to 2G/3G network) profile
Haven't isolated whether it was the uninstalling or the being in an online mode that solved my problem, but definitely doing both the above worked for me. (I was originally trying to install Maps with no SIM and in offline mode, and with a previous version of Maps on the phone).

I've tried everything mentioned in this thread with my E71 (Elisa Finland, most recent software) without any positive results. Though there's no 'Maps' in my phone's application menu, so I'm not able to uninstall it. I've tried everything else (removing licence manager, removing memory card, etc.) but nothing seems to work.
I really dont understand why this has to be so difficult? First I have to use **bleep** PC Suite instead of Ovi Suite, then I need Map Loader and before that non-working Map Updater needs to be installed. A regular user goes mad before all that is done. Put yourselves together there for heavens sake!

Yup, connecting via cable instead of bluetooth worked for me :-)
Thanks.
