Maps Updater - IMEI # cannot be obtained

E71-2(236.03)

200.21.118

27-11-2008

RM-357

After downloading and installing the Nokia Maps Updater (and removing Beta versions of 3.0) I have an error;

Cannot update licenses

Missing phone info: IMSI or IMEI cannot be obtained

I found this forum post that directs people to work with the company for license and as I filled in the form they asked for my IMEI by typing *#60# onto home screen.  This did not work, but as you can see from the info at start of post other functions like *#0000# do still work.

http://betalabs.nokia.com/forum/topic/3186

Is this a phone issue or is the software not requesting correctly to retrieve the IMEI?

Re: Maps Updater - IMEI # cannot be obtained

I get this error too when trying to update my N97.

It did not work yesterday and now with the newer version of maps updater today it still comes up with that error message.

Also tried with my N95 8GB and it gives me the same error

Re: Maps Updater - IMEI # cannot be obtained

Looks like dyslexia kicked in for me :smileysad: *#06# does work.

This still leaves me with the issue that Maps Updater cannot find my IMEI to complete the upgrade.

Any help here?

Re: Maps Updater - IMEI # cannot be obtained

hi there, you don't need the IMEI to be detected to actually complete the installation of Maps 3.0 on your device. it will be installed on your phone, and you can perform the license upgrade/checking by selecting Shop And Licences in the application. so just click OK when it comes up with that message and activate the licence later on.

Re: Maps Updater - IMEI # cannot be obtained

I got the updated Maps Updater over the w/end and my home computer stated that I was currently updated however I am only on v3.01 09wk26 b02 MW OpenGL LM MN.

BTW I didn't get an option to click OK and install (otherwise I would have) it just states EXIT.

Re: Maps Updater - IMEI # cannot be obtained

well the version that you stated is the latest version, that is what the Maps Updater program installed on your phone for you, which is correct. so problem solved, all good then :smileyhappy:

Re: Maps Updater - IMEI # cannot be obtained

Interesting, I thought this is the version I had prior to the released version (I had updated the beta a week before) but perhaps not or Nokia thought this was a stable versionI presumed by the b02 in the version number this was still a beta version.

Re: Maps Updater - IMEI # cannot be obtained

i personally have no idea what the b02 means, but i do know for a fact that it is the final version, as i had read the news from Beta Labs that Maps had graduated to the final release version so i went to download it and voila, that was the Maps version released to everyone. final is final, regardless of whether b's are stated :smileytongue:

Re: Maps Updater - IMEI # cannot be obtained

I'm glad we are on the same version, however my point is I upgraded a week before the release to a beta version and this is the same version you and I have so no update has happened from a beta version to the "final" versionI am surprised at this, as why put out a beta if you are only going to release it as finalA beta implies there are issues that need resolving and that does not appear to have happened for the last version.

I am not complaining, just curiousas I do like ovi maps and speed and performance have improved over the versionsFor another topic I only think they need to improve the search functionality as I compare it to Google maps and I can search by a typing an address within one click (Ovi takes multiple clicks or uses fields for specific info).

Re: Maps Updater - IMEI # cannot be obtained

that is very interesting that the version number is the same from the final beta to the final release version. well they did say that they were going to give a sneak peek at the final version, but it does seem pointless in that way. but thinking about it, actually the version that was provided in February i think (the one before the last beta in June), was still slow and had a lot of bugs, so they garnered feedback from that to make it to the final beta. i think the developers wanted to make sure, and have a few weeks for the Beta Labs users to check if their changes/improvements to what users have suggested in the previous beta, were working. and maybe they were content enough with the final beta, that there wasn't any critical bugs/improvements that were required to be made, and that everything was working great. that's the only reasonable explanation i can think of.

the suggestion for Google Maps hmm. i myself wouldn't like doing that, i have used Google Maps before and found the one address thing a bit cumbersome. same with the website we have here in Australia, Whereis.com. its not always accurate in finding addresses/places etc, and may make it more difficult for the software to differentiate between fields if not entered correctly/in the correct format. i just think the way Nokia Maps does it, at least the suggestions come up in each field to ensure that you are selecting the correct place. i like this method better. but whatever floats your boat i suppose :smileytongue:.

please throw some kudos our way, it would mean a lot to us :smileyhappy:
