Hi,
I'm a heavy Maps 3.06 user and curious to know if it's compatible with Nokia Belle. Has any Maps 3.06 user around here already updated to Belle and succesfully used Maps 3.06?
Regards.

@bearshare
By updating to Nokia Belle Nokia Maps v3.08_11wk47_b04 is pre-installed, although no verdicts as yet!

@asperguy,
Well, I hope Maps 3.08 can be rolled back 3.06, after Belle update, by using the "normal method", Hope it works, since I'm upgrading to Belle this night.

I'm just after Belle upgrade and after check that uselles 3.08 is presented. I used "normal method" and so far it looks OK. Good old 3.06

It's not possible to remove Nokia Maps 3.08 since it's embedded on Belle's firmware.
The old method of removing Maps 3.08, which was discussed in /t5/Maps-Navigation-and-GPS/Nokia-Map-v3-08-app-Re
It's possible to install Maps 3.06 over 3.08 though. Maps 3.06 works (almost) fine on Belle. The undesired and sadly bad side effect is that the integration between contacts and Maps is broken. If you tap on a contact's address in order to see it on Maps, you'll get a "System Errror" and Maps 3.06 shows it's main menu.
So, it appears that I'll have to make a decision between using the crippled Maps 3.08 and having contacts integration or using the good and old Maps 3.06 without contacts integration.
Further comments by the experts will be appreciated...
Cheers!

How did Kocian use the "Normal Method" ???

@farby,
I suspect that Kocian didn't bother to read the whole topic were we discussed the "normal method" and simply installed Maps 3.06 over 3.08, which was the only thing I was able to do ![]()

Why did nokia ever ever create maps 3.08? Why doesnt anyone out there hear that WE, USERS, dislike maps 3.08? My only reason of using a nokia is maps. And i'm sticking with anna until something better than maps 3.08 comes up

Hi everybody, I installed 3.06 over 3.08. The downside of this procedure is, that five 3.08 applications have been left over. I have no clue in how far this will affect negatively the working of 3.06. One thing is already mentioned; the disconnection between the addresses of contacts and the application of these addresses in 3.06. I will not miss this very much. Are there other problems to expect? Cheers

Guides and Weather work fine after installing 3.06 over 3.08. I've tested both apps and they're as OK as before.
Check-in also works, but as I don't use it, can't tell if it's OK.
You can also install Nokia Maps Suite Beta. Included apps are Places, Public Transport and Pulse. Places is my favourite one, it's a quite nice and usefull app!
Cheers!

I did that for my anna device (since nokia and my network have not given me belle yet). Currently running 3.06 over 3.08. When my I friends send me their locations (by email or sms), they do not appear on the map. Instead i get a 'system error' when trying to view such locations.
And to think i was given this 3.08 by nokia suite....!
Disliking 3.08 all the days of its life

@Analyst I have read the problem you described in the threads about 3.08. The main issues for me to get rid of 3.08 were the drain and the absence of route planning. I have app off installed and I could not switch off 3.08. I'm quite precise in handling my battery. The lifespan of a rechargeable battery is expressed in the number of charges the battery can take. So, I see to it, that I recharge my battery at a minimum amount of times. The only app that is running constantly is app booster, but this app takes hardly nothing. I like my N8 very much and I want to use this phone as long as possible. Reading the complaints about battery problems and other misery of Lumia is for me an impulse to stay with my N8. May be, when WP has changed his state of adolescence into a mature state, it is time to enter the WP realm. Cheers

Seems Nokia still is a trusted company and has listened to it's faithfull users...
Nokia Beta Labs has just released Nokia Maps Suite 2.0, which includes several apps and Maps 3.09.
According to Beta Labs info on Maps 3.09, "route planning is back" and there's a "larger map view as you drive"
Wow, I'm really impressed and relieved
I hope that Maps 3.09 bring us back the joy to use the good old nav system that Nokia Maps is.
Will try Nokia Maps Suite 2.0 at night, since I'm on a network connection right now.
Cheers!

Thank you bearshare for sharing the good news
Thanks a lot Nokia for developing maps 3.09. Really 3.08 is a pain. A pain that none of the serious maps users wanted to experience.
Cant say nothing much about it now cos i'm still stuck with anna (no belle for my variant yet)
. I hope it comes soon so that i can give Nokia 500 kudos. But as can be seen from the attached pics, "add to route" is back. and i also like the public transport intergration.

Thanks for the information. It's great to have the route planning back. How about the offline route calculation feature? Is that back also and how about the drain issue of 3.08. Is that gone as well? Beta Labs does not give this information or I have overlooked something. Greetings from Holland.

Is it possible to install 3.09 beta over 3.08, and then uninstalling 3.09 beta followed by installing 3.06 to get a clean install of the latter?
10-Feb-2012 06:46 PM
@mobywil,
As for the battery issue, I remember I read yeasterday, somewhere on the Beta Labs discussions, that the issue is solved. As I get it, the process do remain in backgound because they are needed for speed, but they don't drain battery.
I'm not sure what you mean by 'offline route planner'. Could you elaborate?
Greeting from Porto Alegre, Brazil.

@ zaknafein,
As per Nokia Labs, it's possible to uinstall 3.09. But bear in mind that as 3.08 is embedded on the Belle firmware, there's no way to remove it. So, you will never again have a chance to do a "fresh 3.06 install".
Cheers!
