Thanks for reacting, Chris. Better late than never.
The second solution suggested by you:
"Uninstall Ovi Maps 3.01 either via Application Installer on the device, or C on Ovi Maps icon in the main menu [...]"
seemed like a simple and reasonable one. I tried it on my 6710 and the Maps app reverted to v3.01 09wk38. Of course I rushed to the Navigation Settings, just to find it crash again.
Like I posted earlier, for my 6710 the problem started after the firmware update, so before the Ovi Maps update. Since Ovi Maps is part of the firmware for this model, it seems like the problem is in the firmware as well as in the updated application.
If the the support staff and R&D department would really be working hard to solve this problem, they would have extracted this info from the forum posts ages ago.
Also, they would stop knowingly and actively spreading firmware updates that cripple the navigator's navigation settings.
Almost five weeks have passed since support staff were informed about this serious flaw in the new firmware update. Still, there is no solution from Nokia available. No, Nokia is even still actively spreading new firmware that cripples the navigation on Navigator phones.
Please, Nokia, offer us the old 6710 firmware in the form of an update!! This is the only real solution where (paid) apps don't have to be reinstalled!!

Thanx Ashim, your steps worked for me. Didnt even use the PC Suite for it and the "Navigation settings" dont crash anymore.
I wont update ANYTHING on that phone anymore until something more stable comes out.

My Nokia 6710 integrated GPS is a "goner"...after a device upgrade even though I resolved the navigation problem. Before I upgrade, it was working fine. My old N82 integrated GPS got connected less than 1 minute even after a few device updates. This 6710 takes "hours" to connect, it can only be connected if I enable AGPS as well...which costs $$$
I had sent the phone to Nokia Service centre..."hopefully" it works when I get it back later...

It's been pretty quiet here since Dec. 21st - well the Hoidays are over with and customers still claim a solution.
I drove last week from Switzerland via Austria to Germany and back - that means a lot of tunnels with lost GPS connection.
I can only say that my wife was about to throw the 6710 Navigator out of the window. Cause after every tunnel the phone couldnt find a GPS fix anymore, annoying announcements followed ...
Once the GPS connection was restored the built-in compass decided to strike on us ... that phone really, really needs a working firmware.
I only bought the 6710 for its lifelong licenses, but right now my 5800 works far better and I rather pay the weekly/monthly license-fees than driving around with the 6710 any longer ...
Please NOKIA take care of that issue along with the Navigation-Settings crash-issue.
Looking forward hearing from you soon!
Matt

Chris, don't you think that we as the users deserve something better than constant apologizing for being away and other no-news? To me Nokia is as arrogant as Apple.
Your chance to prove otherwise.

I'm among the users who are experiencing inability to get GPS fix after firmware/Maps upgrade (I have a Nokia 6710 Navigator).
Strangely enough, this happened after following the instructions, found here in this thread, to fix the Tools/Settings/Navigation bug/crash. Before that, with the updated firmware and updated Maps application, I was able to get a GPX fix.
At the moment the only way to make Maps work is to enable Assisted GPS (which implies paying extra money).
Note: when I first bought my 6710, I experienced something similar (I had to enable Assisted GPS (or Network positioning) to get the first GPX fixes); but in a few days the phone was somehow able to get fixes even with all those options disabled (i.e. only using the internal GPS device).
It goes without sayng that I am deeply annoyed by the troubles of my 6710. I have bought it to upgrade my old Nokia 6110 (which had always worked like a charm) and I had no idea I was going to have such a bad experience. I think I'm going to sell this phone (or give it back to the online Nokia Shop I bought it from, if possible) if a fix won't be available in few weeks.

I have an E71 with the same issue.
I recently paid £60-ish for Nokia Drive and the traffic updates - and now this program crashes and doesn't work properly.
I have paid for this program and own my licence - but you have taken it away from me.
Nokia, you have an obligation to fix the product we own.

I fixed this on my E71 with a deep reset (*#7370#). I restored all except User data and Settings with no problem. Don't know if User data and Settings restoring cause the problem, I've not tried.
I hope this bug will be solved soon, it's quite boring to reset the device.

Actually now I've smashed my screen the Maps problem isn't such a big issue. If anyone else is troubled with the latest version of maps I suggest throwing your phone at your bookcase too - I can guarantee you will no longer care about maps.

Maps 3.01(32) on 6210 navigator crashes
Do a backup via PC Suite !!!
In my family we have two 6710 Navigators. My 6710 is working Ok but my sister's 6710 had "Maps 3.0 crash" problem. I don't want to loose settings and maps from another application. So i don't want to do a reset with *#7370#. I update my phone with maps_installer_3.03_10wk1_b05_s60_3.2.Nocs.sis
=> I have
Nokia Maps Version: 3.03(246)
Ovi Kartat Version: 3.03(246)
and navigation is Ok
[My sister's 6710: I do Plan B: (Ashim 16-Dec-2009 08:28 AM) 2) I accept requests... 3) I restore all but Memory card and Settings 6) Install SW => Ok but i loose settings and maps from another application. So i restore all but memory card via PCSuite and get the problem BACK].
So i think..update is the solution for crash problem. I tried to update my sister's 6710 but i get "Tuntematon virhe: -5" (Unknown error: -5).
=> and i have
License Manager Version: 6.22(5)
Nokia Maps Version: 3.01(32)
Ovi Kartat Version: 3.03(246)
and navigation button opens old maps version
Now i go to Sovellukset (Applications).. Sovell. hall.(Application management).. Asennetut sovell.(Installed Applications).. i removed License Manager Version: 6.22(5) and Nokia Maps Version: 3.01(32). Then i update phone again with maps_installer_3.03_10wk1_b05_s60_3.2.Nocs.sis
=> Now i have
Nokia Maps Version: 3.03(246)
Ovi Kartat Version: 3.03(246)
and navigation is Ok
The phones have latest (October 2009) firmware version.
Seems like I KNOW HOW to solve it (at least I hope my steps will help you).
First time i enable AGPS but then i change Settings.. Settings.. Common settings.. Navigation.. Navigationserver.. Navigationserver usage.. Ask always
When i opens Ovi Maps i answer No for Navigationserver and still get GPS -signal.
Today i change Settings.. Settings.. Common settings.. Navigation.. Navigationserver.. Navigationserver usage.. Disabled and still get GPS -signal

Chris! Any solutions yet?
Think, we have to wait for the 3.03 version. Hope, Nokia will do it fast.
ps. I've recently installed map 3.01 on my e51 and no problem there (only on my e71).
24-Feb-2010 08:03 PM
Same problem on N86 with up-to-date software.
09-Mar-2010 02:59 PM
Same problem with my N79 (latest FW);
09-Mar-2010 04:53 PM
same problem with n82 last firmware, ovi maps last version.
crash into setting menu: navigation

I have no problems with navigation, instead my 3.01.09 version of Ovi maps have disabled my compass. It doesn't point N anymore and the circle around it's green. Is anyone else encountering this problem on 6210?

Hi,
since this issue with "Options>Tools>Settings>Navigation>CRASH" is still unfixed by Nokia and due to the fact that I need to change the navigation language, I was wondering if I can manually make any change to any config file.
Since the current navigation language is French female and I would like to change it into English female, would anyone know what value I need to be changing?
I looked into the "qf" file in path "Memory Card>cities>diskcache" and see a line item called "languageID:1" but not sure if that's the one.
Any help is appreciated.
thanks

I, too, have the 6210 crash and Nokia hasn't fixed the problem, does not want to answer any emails, and seemingly don't care about its customer base.
A thought that may overcome your problem. Haven't tried it but you could delete all maps and voices, and download the maps again. You should then have the opportunity to download the correct voice.
Hope it works

Still no fix for the E71 I see for the Navigation Settings issue...Also, perhaps I'm being stupid, but I cannot see how to remove Ovi Maps 3.01 from the device so as to force a re-install via Nokia Maps Updater? Any ideas?

This doesn't work.
I can't believe that a solution hasn't been developed since NOVEMBER and that this awful update is still available for download.
This is terrible support, to be polite.
