Anyone know how often the maps are updated? There is a new bridge that opened a year ago and it is still not on the latest map I downloaded.

Depends on where you are. Map data providers update map data up to 4 times a year for some areas. Major urban areas usually get updates more often.

OK. I'm getting freaked out here. I check the maps.ovi.com web site at work and it shows the new bridge. Then I go home and it's gone. I'm thinking I was seeing things or getting old. I come back to work and check it again and it's back again. Am I just looking at the wrong web site at home or something? I'm gonna check it again when I get home.

It may be worth pasting the web address you are using at work into an email and sending it to yourself at home.
When you get home, click on the link you have sent to yourself.
That way you will be sure you are viewing the same site at work and at home.

I went home and tried this again. What I found was that when I use Firefox, the maps.ovi.com web site shows an older map without the Golden Ears Bridge. When I use Internet Explorer, the web site shows the latest map with the Golden Ears Bridge. How do I get the maps.ovi.com web site to show the most updated map on Firefox
I downloaded the British Columbia map and my N97 does no show the Golden Ears Bridge. I'm going to try downloading the Canada map to see if it has the latest update.

Well, I tried to download the Canada map and it still does not show the Golden Ears bridge. It appears that for some reason, when I access the maps.ovi.com web site with IE, I'm getting some more updated map. When I use Firefox, I get the same old map that I get on my phone. It's not just the bridge, but other newer roads are shown on the site using IE, but not on Firefox or on the phone.
Anyone else in the Metro Vancouver area that has the more updated map on their phone that includes the Golden Ears Bridge?

Hi Stuntman,
i have checked on my Firefox and it shows the Golden Ears Bridge as well. You can try clear your Firefox cache or try to uninstall the ovi maps plugin, then check again.
Hopefully helpful.

ah, just to make it clear. Just uninstall the plugin without reinstalling it. And check the bridge again.

Hi, Comodo09.
I uninstalled the plug in and the Golden Ears Bridge now appears on my Firefox browser.
I'm still unable to see the Golden Ears Bridge on my N97. I tried to reload both the British Columbia map and the Canada map and still, no bridge. Are the maps that I download a different version than on the maps.ovi.com web site? I would figure that the maps should be the same maps.

The downloadable maps are periodically compiled for use with the mobile Maps app and released. Therefore they tend to lag behind the online versions. Do you run Maps on your phone in online mode while browsing the maps? If not, and you don't mind the data usage, then try it. If you browse to the site of the bridge you are interested in, any updates for that area should automatically be downloaded to the phone OTA.

Thanks, for the reply. I do have it on online mode and the bridge still does not appear. I set it in Settings | Internet | Connections, right? It says Online there. I can get the satellite image of the area (which still shows the bridge under construction) on my phone.
In any case, I guess I'll just wait for the latest update in the future. It's in the metropolitan area I live in, so I know how to get to places. It's a nice to have rather than a necessity. It's a toll bridge anyway, so I likely won't be taking it.

Hi Stuntman,
Yes, it's right that the map in maps.ovi.com and in the phone should be the same. Btw, have u tried deleting the cf file and Cities folder in you phone before downloading the new map?

i am sorry, it should be qf file ![]()

Hi, comodo09.
Are you suggesting that I delete the entire CITIES folder from my E: drive (mass memory)? I looked in that folder and there are a lot of other files like my sound files and stuff. If I delete this directory, will I have to reinstall all of the countries and voice files or the entire Ovi Maps application?
The qf file you are referring to is in the E:\ directory, right?
I just want to make sure. This sounds a bit weird to have to delete so much. My expectation is that when I download the maps, it would overwrite any existing out of date maps with the latest ones. It would have been nice to be able to easily identify what maps I have on my phone (as in the date they were last updated) and what maps are available for download. I would be nice to know that I have a 2009 map and the latest I can download is a 2010 one for instance. Right now Ovi Suite gives me very little information. It doesn't even seem to check if I actually need to download a map. It seems weird that Ovi Suite would let me waste my time downloading the same map 10 times in a day if there are no updates.
Thanks,

Ovi Suite currently only tells you the countries that are on your phone and one version number for the lot. I have often wondered but never confirmed which version it actually lists if you have maps for different countries of different versions. Unfortunately we have to live with these limitations until they add the additional functionality to Ovi Suite in future updates.
For the moment, this is what you could do. As the map data is free, there is no need to download any more than you need. As map data can be updated as often as 4 times a year, you should be updating regularly anyway. Every 2-3 months I delete all map data and then download only the maps I need for the next few months. This was I am ensured the latest map data and I don't end up clogging the memory with maps I don't need which will be out of date by the time I need it anyway.

Hi Stuntman,
Yes, you have to delete that folder. There are indeed a lot of folders inside, but unfortunately that's the only way you can do to get the latest map (if you have the older version of map data now). And it's correct that the qf file i was referring is in E:\ directory.
You don't need to reinstall the OVI Maps application, you only need to open the OVI Maps after deleting those stuffs, and just wait for a second because OVI Maps will recreate all of the folder structure for your 'new' CITIES folder.
And then you can download your map and voice again, and see if that helps.

Well, I did all the deleting and reloaded the Canada map and still no Golden Ears Bridge. I'm going to try just the B.C. map to see if that makes any difference.
13-Jun-2010 04:39 AM
Well, still no Golden Ears Bridge. Maybe I'll just have to wait until next year or something.

Hmm, it's strange. I could found the Golden Ears Bridge on my N97.

That suggest latest maps have not been downloaded .
