This has been covered a number of times. Most sat-nav companies charge you up front forthe software and data as a package, then charge you for software updates. Nokia makes the software free to download and update at any time, but charge for a licence to use the voice-guided navigation.
You normally get a free licence with a new phone, in your case 90 days, to allow you to try the software and make your own decision whether you buy a licence and continue to use it. You probably have Maps 2.0 on your phone, for which a licence will be one country (like France or Germany) or a group of smaller countries (like Benelux or Scandinavia); it is worth upgrading to Maps 3.0 - then a licence covers a whole region, ie: Europe or North America - so in that way it is more cost-effective.

GPS is always free for Nokia Maps.
Voice Navigation is free for 3 months on the N79.

I have the same problem! why do you have to pay for the navigation? If i have payed for a nokia N series with GPS that mean you should get the whole deal not only half of it !!!!! If you buy a nokia for 20€ you know from start what you get(no GPS amowng other)but if you pay a lot for a nokia N series you expect the whole deal. You can buy a GPS device for about 100€ and you get the whole package with voice and everything. I have payed 370€ for N79 and I expect the whole deal in the GPS not half !!!!!!!
