E71 - GPS and third party apps

1. Is it possible to use internal E71 GPS receiver with other navigation applications (not Nokia Maps) installed on E71?
2. [maybe S-F :smileywink:] Is it possible to use internal E71 GPS receiver with EXTERNAL device with navigation applications (e.g. PDA)?

1. Yes - The installable google maps program supports the internal GPS as do a few other programs like Garmin XT.

2. No - The E71 cannot be used as a GPS unit for any other device.

it means that it should work with all such programs?
if not, what is the reason that it works with some programs and with other not?
is there any list of these "few other programs"?

Re: E71 - GPS and third party apps

Some older programs such as tomtom mobile are not compatible with the internal GPS.

It all depends on how a program has been coded as to whether it can use the internal GPS or not. Most newer navigation software will support the internal GPS.

I have not seen any lists of supported programs.

Hi kr33

You might like to look at ExtGPS here although this refers to accessing internal GPS by another device:

Re: E71 - GPS and third party apps

I am using Garmin XT in my e71 and it works perfectly.

IMO, it is better than Nokia Maps especially that Nokia doesnt have any available maps for the Philippines.

Re: E71 - GPS and third party apps

I installed Garmin Mobile XT into my E66. It works well except that it provides turn-by-turn voice navigation for the 1st turn. Subsequent turn there is no more voice navigation.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Re: E71 - GPS and third party apps

Hi bedanmick,

do you have any issue with the voice navigation?
I only receive the first voice navigation, no subsequent voice navigation. Map display navigation is ok.

At the same time, when I try the simulate route, it can make the first turn, then go straight - ignoring the indicated route.

Do you have this problem?

Re: E71 - GPS and third party apps

Thanks.

I tried Garmin xt is version 4.10.60s60.9 in E66 but it does not work 100%: map navigation is ok though slacky. voice navigation for 1st turn, no voice for subsequent turn.

Anyway, I will ask my colleague to tried it on his E71 to check it out.....

E71 - GPS problem

I'm having problems connecting to nokia maps, the E71 seems to take an age trying to lock on to a GPS signal, resulting in the Satellite status flashing a single yellow bar.

Has anyone else had problems locking on? Is there a solution anyone can suggest?

please help me

Re: E71 - GPS problem

It appears that Garmin XT is no longer for sale. Do you know where I can buy a copy of XT? I have an E71 and am desperate for gps navigation after the Nokia maps trial expired. The Nokia map is good but quite pricey as you have to pay a yearly subscription whereas the Garmin XT is a one-off cost.
How's Garmin XT on the E71?

Re: E71 - GPS problem

A quick way to lock into GPS position is to use GPScam (GPS camera). It takes between 15 sec to 30 sec to lock into position, thereafter your Nokia Map will also lock into GPS position.

You may want to install GPSCam.v2.20.S60v3.SymbianOS9 to test it out.
