This happens whether I have a GPS fix or not.
Can anyone help? How can I view maps with and without a GPS fix?

I thought that the idea of Map Loader was to pre-load maps so that you did not have to rely on expensive mobile network downloads to show your location. Having downloaded the UK maps I then asked 'maps' to show me my GPS location. Initially it showed a mostly green screen with Chelsea in the middle but as I zoomed in I just got a green screen. I then set network access to 'when needed' and the phone then connected to the server and downloaded the detail.
Is there a way of pre-loading ALL the detail of the maps so that connection to a server is not necessary?

Slide the handset open, click on Maps,Network usage Disabled click on OK,Options-Map Options-Satellite info, then put the Mobile in a window sill or Outside, handset still Open for 5-15 minutes, about 5 Satellites should Lock On,when 3 Black bars appear,it should have Secured Internal Lock on, then You can Zoom into your Home position or it may Zoom elsewhere.
Now you have got the Mobile GPS Working, use Maploader,a Quality Fast Mem card,2GB and Remember which Country maps you put on it,Allow the Mobile 75% Mem Usage?.
I Found this Handset Very Valuable when in Foot Walking Mode around Moscow and Kiev.
Keep this to the Top,i Wont type it out Again,Hope this Helps.

I have 'Maps' v1.2 and an E51. The link above describes how there can be 2 locations for map files; one is a in set of subfolders starting \cities\diskcache\... and one is hidden and is in the set of subfolders starting \Private\20001f63\diskcache\... My memory card had both locations and it was clear that the map loader was placing maps in the hidden folder tree whilst the maps application was looking in the other location, and was therefore not finding the downloaded files containing the detail and having to download it using my mobile network.
Moving all the files from the hidden location to the one where the maps application was looking solved my problem.
I cannot find a way to configure either the map loader or the maps application to use a particular location so that I can get them playing from the same hymn sheet...any gurus out there know how to save moving the files manually?

I actually have it 'working' now but the maps are corrupted. Bristol is in the Bristol Channel (in water!).
I've tried reinstalling maps but it's not working. Can anyone help me get this expensive paperweight to work?...

Good to hear my site help you solve (part of) a problem.
BTW, the "110mb" link may stop working if I move my site to another host, but http://nokiamaps.moo.no will keep pointing in the right direction even if I jump webhost.

for just maps.....connect phone to pc in data transfer mode (not pc suite mode), and open map loader. there is an option on right handside near bottom to delete current maps on phone. do that then pick the map you want and reinstall it.

BUT make sure you have backed up you personal stuff first.
After reset open Maps. Then close again.
Hook phone to PC in Data transfer mode and open MapLoader on PC.
Download map you want and try it out. If it works fine then put your personal stuff back on.
Otherwise dont put personal stuff back on and reinstall the phone software.

Can I take the handset to a high street store and get it flashed/nuked then upgraded to v21?

I tried almost everything(including firmware update).
I deleted and downloaded new maps several times with no luck.
Finally today I managed to get the maps working.
I deleted the whole diskcache folder and the qf-file from the memorycards root.
Then I started the maps program and it took a while to start cause it made a new directory structure(to replace the folders I deleted).
After the program started I shut it down and loaded the new maps to memory card and since the program has worked just fine.

Just restores to factory settings. Might help if some file is corrupt.

Firstly, make sure you go to the app. manager on your phone (usually found in the applications folder) and delete the nokia maps 2 from there.
Also reformat your memory card.
Then do what tjt79 posted, but I've made it step by step for ppl like me LOL):
Connect your phone to your computer using the "data transfer" NOT PC Suite. A folder should show up, if not, go to 'my computer' and it will be there as "memory card" or whatever you have named your card.
Open it and you will see a few files in there. Make sure you delete the folder "cities" or "diskcashe" if it is still there and also delete a file called qf-file. (for some reason they seem to stay there even after a reformat etc and that's what seems to stop the maps from being seen properly)
I also made sure I had 'show hidden files' checked in the tools/folder options/view so I could see if they were hidden or not.
I then installed the nokia maps from my computer onto my phone via PC suite.
Open up your maps (it may take awhile cause it's starting a new directory structure on your memory card to replace the ones you deleted)... and allow it to connect to the internet briefly so you can get satellite coverage. (dont panic, you will still only see a green page, but if you zoom out you should at least now see your country etc)
Once you've done that, close and connect your phone to your computer using the "data transfer" and open up the map loader program and download your countries maps + voices you may want.
Once done, go back to your maps and you will find that all the streets will be showing once again!!
I hope this helps, it worked for me and I tried it on two different reformatted cards that weren't working before this.
