I bought Nokia 5800 ExpressMusic few weeks ago and installed Ovi Maps 3.03 software soon after.
Last weekend I was abroad and I faced the following problem - when trying to use Michelin and Lonely Planet catalogues to find some palces for eating/entertainment, I was able to connect to the applications only via GPRS (cellular network) which was very costly for me due to the heavy roaming tariffs for data download. I tried to find any Settings to use these applications through WLAN but did not find anything that will allow me to connect to Michelin catalogie through WLAN.
Could anyone help me how to fix this problem (to connect to Michelin/Lonely Planet/Weather using WLAN when access point available nearby) as using these aplications is most valueable when you are abroad, but if you have to use GPRS it is going to be very expensive and luxtury service.
Thanks in Advance

Patruns, Thanks for your reply but this does not help
I think this issue has something specific with Ovi Maps as any other application (Internet, Ovi Store, etc) trying to go online asks me what to use - WLAN, GPRS or WAP. Only Ovi Maps applications (Weather, Michelin, Lonely Planet) connect directly through GPRS without asking...
Probably someone well aware with Ovi Maps v3 could help me. Please, give some idea?

Hi matador
In OVI Maps application whilst it is "Offline" what happens if you go to Options > Tools > Settings > Internet and set "Network Destination" to "Internet" where your WLAN is "Priority 1" although you would have had to previously define the available WLAN access point?
That is how I make it download map data which is not stored on memory card via WLAN.

Hi,
I managed to settle the issue, with the help of both of you and some more attempts with the settings of my phone![]()
To whom I may help, here is the solution:
Settings/Connectivity/Destinations/Internet/[Opera
Also priority should be less than WLAN Internet Access Point.
In this case Ovi Maps Applications are trying to connect GPRS and ask for access. When you deny it, second time they connect automatically to WLAN Network if there is connection with such

Hello,
I had the same problem and finally got my 5800 to access Michelin and Lonely Planet via my WLAN most of the time, however when I first start Maps it always briefly connects via my cellular network first (even when "offline").
It doesn't really matter but I'd like to know why it does it.
Is this unavoidable?
Thanks.

It does that not because of the maps app but because the GPS is activated.
When any application activates the GPS a data connection is established for the assisted GPS (A-GPS) feature.
This can be disabled but will reduce the GPS performance. It will take much longer to get an initial lock when using the GPS.
To disable:
Menu > Settings > Phone > Application Sett. > Positioning > Positioning methods
Now remove the tick from assisted GPS and it will no longer make the data connection.

to avoid the connection for the fix, better in positioning setting -> server disable and have agps on.

RE: Settings/Connectivity/Destinations/Internet/[Opera tor]Internet GPRS/Use Access Point set to 'After conirmation' instead of 'Automatically':
On my 6710Navigator with latest firmware, the path is slightly different:
Settings/Settings/Connection/Destinations/Internet
Thanks for your info! :-)
