I purchased the 5800 a week ago. I installed Nokia Suite in my PC (Win WP) and wanted to update EVERYTHING possible. I downloaded the Maps Updater to go for V3... I tried to run it several times over the last few days, but the download is tooooo slow!. I have broadband connection and download lots of things.. .but over an hour for 5.4 Mb is way too much.
Any ideas to solve this?

Try again later, the maps servers may have been overloaded or under maintenance at the time that you tried.

Hello everybody,
Just new over here.![]()
Last week I bought a new 5800 Navigation and like Smvalle I also decided to update.
Still nothing has changed. It is way to slow!!!![]()
And to make matters even worse. During the update they first remove the old files.
So I was left with an 5800 Navigtion edition without any maps. At last i managed to update the Netherlands map
but it took me more than three hours to download 79MB!!! whith a broadband connection.
( I know its 2010 but what is going on !!!)
Please Nokia do something about it

Same from New Zealand - it is basically impossible to update a Nokia phone from here as downloads take so long the software times out. Crazy. I love my nokia phone but this is a major stopping point for me...

I've experienced this before on a PC wherein the AV was blocking the access of Maps Loader to the internet.

2GB under half an hour .
Old maps can be backed up beforehand via backup or just copying Cities folder to PC .

Maps Loader is slow.
Use Ovi Suite to download the offline maps, much faster. They use different servers.
From NZ. Maps Loader about 5KB/s. Ovi Suite often 100KB/s.

Now I read this thread...
I just got a 5800, Navigation Edition, and saw Ovi said updated maps were available. So like a fool I clicked "Update". Many hours later and it's deleted ALL the maps that came with the device and is slowly chugging through Austria. It says "All" maps were on the phone, so I fear I'm going to have to cancel when I leave the office so I can take my phone with me, the battery is nearly flat (full charge last night), and I'll have lost most of the countries that were on it this morning.
As many people have commented already, what would be wrong with (a) using deltas, but more importantly, (b) download each country first, then delete the existing one if you have to and copy the new one in before moving to the next country? That way at worst if I had to cancel I'd end up with some old maps alongside the updated ones.

Try to download between 11:00 PM and 01:AM (GMT) = London time
Downloading after 03 AM GMT is waste of time
I needed 14 days (3 hours a day) to download all the maps with broadband ADSL 4 Mb
It looks as the Nokia server is overloaded.
Good luck.

30 mins to download 2.2GB in the last hour .
Possible slow is due to new Ovi suite informing loads of people that their maps are out of date .
Plus they have changed the downloading routes OVI suite only now .

It's 30 November 2010.
I'm downloading usually at rates close to 1Megabyte/sec.
From Nokia Server I get around 13Megabyte/75minutes = 3kByte/sec.
At this rate. I die before I have the maps! ROFL
please Nokia, watch on your calendar! It's not 1970 anymore! ROFL
We all have Mbit and Gbit internet connections..

That's only half the story as it has then to decompress the .zip and write to memory card, be prepared for a long........wait if you download say Europe!

Its April 2011 and Ovi maps downloading is still incredibly slow.
With this kind of support no wonder people jump to other brand.

It's July 2011 and downloading phone software update is taking 200 minutes for 131mb. This is awful NOKIA... It's one of the reasons why customers are leaving in droves..
awful.

@mac59au
You are not comparing the same process as this thread concerns downloading regional maps, whereas if it is taking you that length of time using Nokia Software Updater your connection is more of an issue; if you are accessing European servers from Oceania this may possibly have bearing upon this.

I did the same stupid thing: click on the 'map update' prompt;
all my maps are gone, and since morning I am trying to download some; tomorrow I leave for holiday, and there is definitely no time to download the 6 countries I will be driving through.
I spent my day trying all the tricks mentioned in other posts, such as the manual download, but with no success. Now, last three hours I decided to let the downloading go; result: am still downloading the first (small) country, and it's not even half done. Time to time the server stops answering, need to click 'try again', and it restarts, so I cant leave the PC unattended; the awful thing is that it sometimes restarts showing the progress bar shorter than before.
I've had nothing else than Nokia so far, 5 or 6 of them, I was not very happy with my first smart phone, too slow, I blamed Symbian, than I got a newer one tempted by the GPS, which btw after a long fight with the locking time works now very well, but this time I am quite sure I will be changing brand, sadly. If it wasnt because I hate the touch screen it could be an i-phone; perhaps I'll go for a BB.
True that other brands dont give you this map download possibility, but if you offer a service you must do it well.
I cant believe the story of the servers overloaded; they can rent all servers of the world if they want. If the problem persists so many months it means they have no resources to solve it. I see bad times ahead for the Finns.

Whilst I am not sure whether you are downloading 00.02.43.117 maps for use with OVI Maps v3.06(688) upon your 5800XM, today have found no issues with servers and have downloaded Australia/Oceania, Europe & the Americas without issue to N8 via OVI Suite v3.1.1.80!
