5800 GPS, clarify online usage?

[ Edited ]

I tried searching around existing topics, but was a little confused at the replies I found, so to clarify:

So I was testing out the GPS, had Bluetooth and A-GPS disabled, network and integrated enabled, and it still connected to GRPS and cost me. I didn't have it before, but I've turned the prompt to go online on now, and if on that prompt I select not to go online, will it still cost me? And if I don't use online, I would assume the GPS wouldn't function as well/quickly, but it will still work right?

I tested it just now, by selecting to not go online in just one location. It didn't send or retrieve any data from the network, but it still shows in my log that there was an outgoing connection to GPRS. Is this normal, even though I've told it not to go into online mode?

Thanks for answering.

Re: 5800 GPS, clarify online usage?

It will go online to load the maps, if you haven't used a PC and MapLoader to predownload the maps to the phone first.

Also, it will want to go online for searches, if an offline search doesn't produce results.

So, start by installing MapLoader - you also get it if you install the latest PC Suite from http://www.nokia.com/pcsuite - and then use it to download the maps for the countries you wish.
