This was awesome, thanks adamf.  I just started using my N900 trial from Wom world Nokia (twitter.com/womworldnokia) and wanted to restart from scratch to have as much of the "out of the box" experience as possible.  Now to figure out where to begin so I can start enjoying this device, i really liked the first day I spent w/ it and explored whatever was on there already

Is there any way of backing up the messages( before I attempt the reflashing)?

yes.

just do a full backup and all your sms messages will be backed up too.

it is part of the communications part of the backup.

after you reinstall the FW, just restore from your backup.

if my phone is not starting it just keeps rebooting is there any way to save my contacts from phone ?
