Afternoon everybody, I was just wondering if anyone had their cards charged today for the shipment of the all new N900. Sources such as Nokia UK had been saying that the release date was today, but i'm yet to see anyone hearing anything like such a thing. Anyone got any news.....and who here is waiting for one at the moment?

I wonder if that just means shipping to stores, or if they will also ship from the Nokia online shop today? Mine hasn't shipped yet but I'll keep you guys posted.

I think they delayed the N900 till the end of November....... if not beginning of December
Quite a few (reputable) sources are saying that Nokia officially began shipping today:
Nokia CEO says starts deliveries of top-model N900 (Reuters)
Nokia N900 starts shipping (Tech digest)
Nokia's new high-end smartphone ships at last (Hexus)

If you go to the Nokia online shop you will see the message:
Estimated delivery date: week commencing 23rd November.
The message is at the bottom of the n900 description.

I went around all the mobile phone stores in the city centre, yesterday. None of them heard of the N900 and I was asked if I meant the N97 mini!
I currently have the N95 (with 16Gb microSD) and N800 (with two 32Gb SD). I wanted to see how the two new flagship mobiles behave and compare to what I am familar with instead I get pursuaded to try navigation on the iPhone. In 30 seconds it found where I was and mapped a route to a distination 70 miles away. It took my N95 20 minutes to find my location with GPS and much longer to enter the destination and I had no maps, even though the maps where downloaded to the phone only last week then couldn't get an internet connection having to swap from wireless to mobile. The original maps stayed until you oved miles out of the area and more where downloaded. The ovi-maps demand a download EVERY time I go to use GPS and disappear unless I can get them uploaded again.
N800, followed the N770 so the OS has had three years of upgrades and still the number of useful apps is very small and for my teenage daughter no games worth the bother. No word processor, no Open Office. It may be an Internet tablet but is a full Linux computer and not unreasonable to expect that people would want PDA functions. Skype was disappointing with still no video. Tried Gmail but the PC end had no video.
The two 32Gb are great. Well I like them. I loaded 5000 books, dictionaries, language learning books and audio, training video and some 60 days of music playback. I think it is the perfect device for students. Small, light, silent and runs a whole day on battery. Didn't impress said teenager who perferred her 16Gb mobile phone and S60 games which runs for several days without the need to be recharged.
Of course it is not recommended to install any third party applications as this voids the Nokia warrantry according to Nokia support.
It is a shame that the N900 can't use SD cards departing from the Maemo line. Perhaps a neat USB plug in for the cards without the need for a large adapter.
Has the N900 got a lens cover for the camera? I can't understant why anyone fitting a camera would not include a lens protection for it, one scratch and it is ruined.

its available in the usa on a "first preorder first served" basis/list
ie nokia calls those who preordered to come and collect.
a few others have posted photos of their devices so far over at the official
maemo site.
for the UK, it seems its December 3rd......
