My friend went to the nokia store in his country asking about the n9 .. Someone there told him that the phone is getting a new optional update to wp7 in about a month from now .. Is this true ?
I'm a proud owner of the n9 and I really like the meego despite some problems that I think will be fixed in the next update.

N9 should be getting PR1.2 in about this time scale, but have no worries it remains a MeeGo device!

the n9 uses arm architecture and the wp devices use qualcom, which in itself is interesting because of the issues that nokia had with qualcomm, yet wp will only work on qualcomm chips.
The N9 is using a Texas Instruments (TI) OMAP3630 processor, which is based on the ARM processor design, but so is the Qualcomm chipset(s) that Microsoft supports for Windows Phone. In other words, *BOTH* use (are based on) ARM architecture.
Nevertheless, Windows Phone does not support TI, and the N9 doesn't have the required hardware buttons that Windows Phone devices are required to have.
Also, Nokia settled its patent/licensing dispute with Qualcomm a long time before Elop and Microsoft appeared on scene as far as Nokia's smartphone strategy goes.

Oh, the extra 52 pixels could be used for the three WP7 mandatory buttons (by having touch display always on and listening to that area). And of course the WP7 mandatory camera button, LOL!

It would be nice if at least MeeGo worked fine on N9. I believe some day it would happen since both Nokia and Linux inventor are from the same country ...
