hmm. you know what...just tried it by the group.
looks like if you enter the contacts manually, it will prompt you.
and if you create a group, then when you are in messaging, and create a new message, you cannot select the group as the contact. :/
the only way to select the group to send a message is to open contacts and then select the group and then tap the message icon. but then it does not allow you to select the contact phone number as you would otherwise.
however, that being said, i noticed that it did default the contact i have in the group to the mobile and not the home number.
why dont you try to create a small group of contacts and see if will auto-select the mobile. otherwise, you may need to go in and manually correct your contacts so that the number you need to use is shown as "mobile"

you shouldnt have to do a lot then if it is only a couple of contacts.
just change the main contact and the group should auto update to the new.
i would try opening those 2 or 3 contacts, be sure that they have mobile listed for the correct number and see if that works.
aside from that....25 people to create a group isnt too bad.
