As many customers have purchased the N900 with the belief that Nokia would make Maemo the OS for smart phones there would be fair that the offer a notable discount for N900 customers when purchasing a new MeeGo device. Marketing costs money, that is what Samsung is doing towards iPhone users.

I think that we will see quite quickly after the first Meego devices are released that the Maemo/Meego community will work to port Meego onto the N900. There is already an active community porting Android to the N900.
Also, I'm not sure that Meego will make a huge difference the the N900, while the user interface might be a little better both platforms support Qt and so applications written should work on both N900 and future Meego devices.

im not sure what the OP is trying to say, but honestly, why would they give us a discount for their next generation of devices simply because we bought a device from this generation? that would just be silly. itd be like saying, oh, i bought a 1980 ford, i want 80% off a 2010 ford.
by your argument, people who bought the n97 should receive a free n8 simply because symbian is being replaced by symbian^3 in nokia's lineup.
nokia wont be using meego for a fair while. the lifespan of maemo is still good. there are already beta meego images for the n900 available, so im pretty darn sure when meego is released, it will still run on the n900.

thats funny.
doubt there will be a discount. i was surprised i got docstogo free because i paid 10 bucks fo the reader on day 1.
this same thing happened back in 2004 with the 7710 on S90. it was a great device, built on hilden (like the n900), first tru touch UI smart device that was ahead of its time, and it was sdetermined squashed before it even hit mass market.
sooo....i do not expect a discount. i believe i recieved more then what i paid for as it is. being truely open source and QT enabled...and with its capabilities and speed....i dont see this devicde (N900) disappearing completely for a while among the 1000's of free linux developers globally.
hope that helped. if it did, please share a kudo.

So you want a "kudo" because you doubt that N900 owners will get a discount. LOL ![]()

those that followed the run up to the N900 launch will remember nokias top man saying that the n900 is one step away from the final vision of maemo, that rang alarm bells with me and now we know the last stage was the joining forces with moblin.
almost all new mobile os's require updated hardware. n900 users should be thankful that meego will run on there handsets (even if not fully supported by nokia)
