There is a way you can back up your data on the N900 without the USB port or using data cables, for future seeing as you've already sent the device away.
From there you can create a back up of everything and make the back up to a MMC. So if you were to have another N900, you would simply insert the MMC into the new N900, and restore your backup.

Your topic is very interesting because i have the same problem with my USB. It was crashed too. I want to ask you about your warranty. When i brought my phone to the service they told me my case isn't the warranty. I'm interesting in the your case and what Nokia corp or service told to you. And at last could you tell me where are from?? Maybe only in my country this situation can be possible.
Thankful in advance, Vlad

I sent the device to the North America center in Indiana (Brightpoint). It will likely arrive there sometime during the coming week. I will rep;ort what Nokia tells me. I can't imagine a clear hardware failure wouldn't be covered by the warranty. The warranty exclusions I'm aware of are moisture damage and physical abuse such as dropping or causing the device to break apart through abnormal use.
What do you mean when you say the connector came out of the device "with stamp?"

I just had the same problem, the connector for the mini usb came out. I went to a official Nokia service centre and was told the warranty does not apply to this problem. I don't understand this because its clear there's a manufacturing problem here.
They said it would cost upwards of £30 to fix

Yes! I absoltely agree with you, but it wil be very pity if I lost my money (NB in Russia we can't buy devicies with the contract so I have to pay the full cost). I will have to pay again for repearing it and there is no garrranty that it won't crash again after 1 year, foк example. PS after you get your device back, write here their decision. Thanks in advance.

I don't know if this will ease the pain but I am not sure if any operator is subsidizing the N900 as yet. I can confirm that I paid full retail. Furious is too mild a word to describe what my reaction will be if Nokia does anything other than ship a new replacement to me within one day of receiving my now useless device.
I expect the answer within two days. Federal Express will deliver it to Brightpoint tomorrow. I will report Nokia's ruling in this forum as soon as I receive it.
This issue is starting to remind me of the infamous N97 camera lens scratch.

FYI Nokia and N900 users: this is NOT the fault of users. The root cause was poor design design of using a surface mount female USB connector rather than through-hole mount. The reports of incidents are piling up, the majority resulting from casual use soon after purchase.
Someone in Maemo Devices needs to take this seriously. The connector and mount method need to be changed ASAP if they have not already. Don't blame the users; honor the warranty and human decency and replace broken devices.

Ok, as the number of cases increases and Nokia denies claims or does not communicate with the unlucky customers (I had to call NOkia to confirm they received my device even though their warranty/repair procedures say they would contact me "as soon as they receive the device") I continue to watch this situation with disappointment and concern. The device has been at the warehouse since 12 January and Nokia's replacement window is up to 30 days.
If Nokia doesn't put this right, I intend to dispute the purchase payment with my credit card company. I encourage anyone else who papid by credit card to do the same if Nokia doesn't repair or replace our N900s. We are watching you Nokia...
