Ditto - I've downloaded all the required files, but...
1) Little stumped with the instructions etc
2) Don't want to screw things over, as it's my only phone, and I like it how I have it working at the moment.
Maybe with a future release, if it can be done OTA and retain my current setup...

i was led to believe from a qualifed person at Nokia at the CTIA show, that the n900 would not be a full meego device, but would be able to share the QT aspects.
all the handsets moving forward would be meego, but they have not forgoten the n900 and will continue to develop for it as well.
but...
...as we all know, they can change thier mind at any time.
so, when someone gets bored and loads this...please do report your findings and screen shots! ![]()

this version of meego is a demostration of the platform... this is for people who like unix packages, rc scripts dbus and other low level stuff!
i doubt i'll using it on my only N900, but i recon I might have a go getting it going on a vmware session over the weekend

Cool! Let us know how it all looks and works etc.
(I thought you might have more than 1 n900...lol)

according to the link, this is actually the developer version with no GUI, for people to test the platform's stability.
they mentioned that it will be available as FOTA around may.

MeeGo will NOT be available for the N900 as a finished, end-user-ready OTA update soon. There MIGHT be a user-ready version of MeeGo for the N900 available at some point, that is as yet undecided. However, if so it will no doubt have to be downloaded and manually installed ('flash' your device, wiping out all installed software, etc). The differences between Maemo and MeeGo OS will be too large to allow a simple OTA upgrade from Maemo 5 to MeeGo.
What they are expecting to release in May is the next step in MeeGo development over what was just released. What we have now is a non-GUI (terminal only) developer-only basic OS. What we will have in May will still be a developer version, but with the basic GUI elements and some other stuff added. It will still be a long ways away from being ready for installation and daily use by ordinary users.
What we WILL get any day now as an OTA update is a significant upgrade to Maemo 5 adding some nice features, including adding critical Qt 4.6 compatibility, which ensures most (if not all) software written in the future for MeeGo will run on N900s still using Maemo. And we will get at least one more significant upgrade to Maemo 5 sometime after that. At that point the N900 will have gotten 5 updates, and could still get more, though that is unknown at this point. All this ensures the N900 will have a long, useful life.

I can NOT wait for QT46.. ideally with the mobility framework too.. aaarggr. I have apps ready to release that require a stable mobility layer.. damnit!
Running Meego on the N900 would be interesting from the point of view of seeing how it hangs.. Unlike Maemo, it isn't Debian (booo!!) so getting to grips with its new shapes and points will be interesting..
I agree with you CrashDamage, it is very very unlikely we'll see a Meego for the N900.. Nokia have never ever ever released a brand new OS out for a previous phone.. N900 probably included.. interestingly the 770, N800 and N810 ALL got new OSes, but win some, lose some.
The Hacker edition releases for Maemo were new Maemos designed to run on old tablets.. they didn't really meet day to day usage, but you could SEE what was going on.. Meego will quite probably land like this.. you could use it, but it's going to suck a lot if you're an end user.. and suck a little if you're a hard core developer..
Either way, you can always reflash and get your Maemo5 phone back!!
QT4.6 will hopefully allow more applications to port between Maemo and Meego.. so for many things, I hope, users won't be that much affected..

Think I'll leave well alone too.
Don't like the "Battery Management" warning. Besides, 1.2 hasn't yet seen the light of day.
