I am facing one annoying issue that the GPS is not working! It says " looking for GPS signal " even after 30 mins later! Even restarting the phone many of times, doesn't seem to work.
Anyone facing this issue ? And how am i able to resolve this ?
I bought the phone less than 2 weeks and this kinda of problem is already happening?

My N9 is kind of slow to find GPS signal and find location. This is especially true if I only have wifi connection. If I have celluar network on, it is fast to find location. The other thing I notice is that the first time you use GPS, it is slow. Then it becomes much much faster.

Hi charissaphang16,
Thank you for your posts and a warm welcome to the Nokia online community.
Sorry to hear about your GPS issue! 30 minutes is far too long and I can completely understand how this can be frustrating.
There are a couple of troubleshooting steps we can go through before a soft reset. Firstly have you got Assisted GPS (A-GPS) on ? To select this go to Settings - Device - GPS & Positioning and activate it. This should help to speed up the connection time for your GPS. A-GPS uses your mobile internet connection to connect to a Nokia server that tells your device which GPS satellites it will be able to connect to, substantially reducing the time taken to get a GPS fix.
If no satellite signal is still not found, consider the following:
Check that your hand does not cover the GPS receiver. (The receiver is on the top right hand corner on the back of the phone)
If you are indoors, go outdoors to receive a better signal.
If you are outdoors, move to a more open space.
If the weather conditions are bad or you are behind UV protected or heated windscreen, the signal strength may also be affected.
Try all this first if you still have no joy then please try to reset your phone. (Please remember to before a backup first!) and then try the above steps once again. Reset information for the N9 you can found here: N9 reset
If after all this your still having issue's receiving a GPS signal then you may need to go to your local Nokia care.
Let me know if any of the above helps!!
Thanks
Raoul

the only thing that has worked on my phone is switching it off and on twice. after that the gps works again.

I think, there is really something wrong with finding location using wlan and mobile network. N9 is never able to determine location while indoors and my previous N8 was working flawlessly. I compared it in the same network, in the same places, on the same mobile number.

you can try to change your supl server from supl.nokia.com to supl.google.com
--------------------------------------------------
This fix requires Nano, if you dont have it:
devel-su
rootme
apt-get install nano
devel-su
rootme
nano /etc/xdg/nokia/location-settings.conf
change the "supl.nokia.com" to "supl.google.com"
-------------
PrimarySuplServer=supl.google.com
PrimarySuplAllowHome=true
PrimarySuplAllowRoaming=true
PrimarySuplOnlyGprs=false
SecondarySuplServer=supl.nokia.com
SecondarySuplAllowHome=true
SecondarySuplAllowRoaming=true
SuplForced=false
-------------
in order to get to the "nokia" to change it, you will have to use the arrows on the menu bar and use the right arrow until you get to the "." in the ".com", then backspace and retype "google" there.
when you are done, swipe the bar over to get the "ctrl" option.
tap the "ctrl" and it should highlight and underline. then tap the "x" then enter.
now you should have a confirmation. untap the "ctrl" then tap "y" and enter.
now it should go back to a terminal command line.
reboot the phone and see if that helps to connect to the servers. the google servers are faster.

My N9 GPS is nothing but pathetic. All the settings are as per above. When I turn it on it often tells me that I am 430km South of my current location or sometimes 500m North! The GPS in my old 6720c was fantastic, never a problem. Maybe the chip is no good? Today it behaved and put the correct location on a photo that I took.

I was having the same problem after using it for a few weeks. I just went outside into my car and did some experimentation. First off I have two additional apps for determining if the GPS is working or not; "gpsmeefo" and "CloudGPS". I started those two apps and Nokia Drive at the same time, this is with a car charger attached. None of the devices could lock onto GPS. Then, I disconnected the car charger, and wham, all three started to work. Then I reconnected the car charger, and they all lost GPS. Just to make something clear, I bought this car charger on Ebay, and it is NOT an official Nokia car charger. I went back into the house, took the USB to micro USB cable that came with the phone, connected it to a USB to cigarette charger adapter, and the GPS worked fine. What's even more interesting was that I disconnected the car charger I was using from the lighter socket, and the GPS still didn't work. Only after removing the micro USB connector side of the car charger from the phone, did it start working. This phone is very picky about what power source and or charging adapters it will use. I tried two other adapter devices, and they often said,"not enough power to charge the phone" after plugging it into the N9. I'm off to the T-Mobile store to buy an official car charger, and I will test it before I leave the store.

I have taken my phone to a Nokia center who reloaded the software. The GPS is still not working. The settings menu only allows me to select an external device i.e. the internal device is not available as an option.
The device positioning and mobile data connection are both activated.

I have the Brodit 512297 carkit (active holder) with a cig-plug.
Recently I noticed that the GPS connection does not work if I charge my N9 via the Brodit.
Once I disconnect the N9 from charging, the GPS connection is almost immediately re-established.
When I use a separate official Nokia charger, there are no problems and the GPS connection keeps working fine.
Apparently, the GPS connection problem is related to charging my N9 via the Brodit carkit.
(or should I say, when I am NOT using an official Nokia charger)
What can be done about it?

I have 3 car chargers, only one of which is Nokia. N9 GPS works fine with all 3. What happens with you use the brodit charger? Does Nokia Drive crash out?
Is it possible that the charger may be emitting em radiation which is jamming the GPS signal. To check this theory, use the charger to charge another device in the vicinity of the N9 and see if the GPS signal is still affected.

No, Nokia Drive keeps active, only the GPS connection is lost.

I don't know. To check this I have 2 issues:
1) I'm not sure if I can disconnect the charge connector from the Brodit holder (if not, it will be very difficult to connect and fit another device into the Brodit holder).
2) I have also a Nokia N82. The N82 has a micro-usb connection, but that is not for charging. The N82 uses the micro-usb only for data transfer. Will this work for checking your sollution?

I am not familiar with the brodit but I presume it has a microusb for connecting to device. If you could connect another device and hole the N9 next to it. That should be good enough to test it.
N82 won't do it because current only flows through the brodit when charging is active and the N82 is not charging.
Does plugging in the charger also affect phone signal strength by any chance?

I don't know about the phone signal strenght but I will check this later today.
I will try to contact someone nearby who has also a N9 and then do the GPS test.
Thanks for now.
