Hello everyone...
I have a n900 for more than a year now. It is a fantastic device... but... no mms, no video call, no real navigation device, very few application... I waited and waited, confident in Nokia, but now it is the end of maemo and Nokia seems to simply forget the N900...
I just want to say that i chose the n900 and not the iphone because i loved nokia so much, but now, i'm just... disappointed... I just want to highlight the fact that this device was very expensive, and it wasn't easy for me to buy it...
I now have to wait one year again to change my phone, and i don't know if i will take a nokia again... It's a pity, because since more than 10 years, I always had a nokia...
Am I the only one to think like that?

Sorry that you feel disappointed, but you always knew that the N900 is not really a phone, but a (mobile) computer which happens to have a modem built-in.
Computers don't do 3G video call nor MMS, they use Skype and e-mail (really, I have never ever seen anyone sending or receiving an MMS, that's like from 10 years ago where phones didn't have e-mail).
The navigation may be an issue, but we have excellent (free) alternatives (have a look at Marble).
Anyway, since you apparently have still one year to change your phone, you have *plenty of time* to ***read the specs*** of any future candidates.. this way you won't get any unpleasant surprise!

Oh no, I can't say I always knew that it was not a phone like the others! I read the specs (yes i swear!
) I even read a looooot of articles, asked in the shops, etc. And nobody told me it was a "special" device... Perhaps it wasn't so clear here in France than in other contries, who knows
(for fmms, i never managed to make it work properly! but I don't speak of this, because, it is obviously my fault
)
I also have problems with the games included, marbles, etc. They don't work anymore, give me a "game not launched" message and i have to restart my device -_-
And I'd like to say (sorry I have difficulties to be clear, but hey, english is not my native langage
) is that i am disapponted because I have the impression that nokia just forgot this device, and maemo...and us... Thent to the SSu, we can have support, but in english, and it's quite hard for me -_-
So, with your answers, I have mine. Perhaps was i expecting too much...
See you! ![]()

Well, it is true that Nokia has "forgotten" the N900, but hey, they launched it two years ago and there's been three major firmware updates.
Perhaps your N900 is asking for a reflash (would at least solve the problem with the games).
I never tried installing fMMS (why would I?
, but I'm sure it must work (please do check in talk.maemo.org).
Here you can find information on fMMS: http://wiki.maemo.org/FMMS
Good luck!

Hello!
So.. Your reactions made me think really hard...
I took a lot of coffee (anf french one is verrrry strong), all my courage and I tried again ![]()
I installed fmms, folowwing the latest topics to make it work properly with my provided and... It Worked! Thank you so much to give me the idea to try again.
I also tried to make the game emulators work properly, but it was too much to ask
I hesitate to overclock my n900... ![]()
After that, I decided to change my widgets, my theme, my wallpapers... and I decided to start a new story with my device ![]()
I'm stiil a bit disapponted, but I love my n900, anyway! ![]()

Hi guys, I agree there are more new apps being developed every day, I too hesitated for a long time before committing to purchasing my N900.
Now I am waiting for the Motorola Milestone/Driod 3 to be available in HK at the end the year, I to use to be a big fan of Nokia, I still couldn't find a proper dictionary, any advise?

@titelisette,
One suggestion to further revive your N900 love: install cloudgps. It's a mapping application that works so well (and fast and smooth) that you'll be impressed by what your N900 can do.
It even has navigation (but no voice.. yet).

My biggest disappointment is N900 doesn't have function of copying contacts from phone to memory card, doesn't have a dictionary & no 3G video calling.![]()

@robcompton,
If you want voice navigation with the OVI maps version included in your N900, have a look at this wiki page:
http://wiki.maemo.org/Ovi_Maps_Extra_Features
I have started using that a couple of days ago and looks pretty good.
Alternatively, you can install Marble maps (using it for a few months, works fine) or Mappero or Modrana (no experience with those though).

I think the N900 is an amazing "Phone" and I heard Nokia don´t repair broken N900 anymore because there are no parts for it anymore. Because of this I bought a second N900 on the internet. The N900 does all I need with no problems. Games, SSH, FTP, VNC etc...
And yes, Nokia forgot the N900 but that is really no problem. We have the CSSU-Team, we have Android for the N900, we have WebOS for N900, Ubuntu...
But the point is QT. Every App for the N9 written in QT will be released for the N900. Look at www.maemo.org. On the front page is an app counter. Since the announcement of N9, the counter goes up... a month ago there were 650 apps for N900 and now there are 712. I know, 712 is not that much compared to the Android market or the apple app-store but i use an iphone too and I can say the app-store is really huge but there are 1500 F A R T apps. The most of the apps in the app-store are useless compared to the 712 apps for the N900!
Sorry for my bad english, not my native language ![]()

Well what can I say?
I have had my N900 for 2 years and quite simply it is by far and away the best phone/smartphone/mobile computer I have ever had
It's browser is still streets ahead of anything else out there, although I wish it would carry Flash - a small grumble though. I have multiple desktops, it's camera is passable, overclocking it makes it as fast as anything I have seen in practice and all in all it's a marvel.
I have just bought off the bay a new battery (first in 2 years) and my third replacement keyboard - I have worn the others out! Cost a couple of quid for the battery and 3 quid for the keyboard.
Nokia have lost their way and are no longer recognisable in the smartphone market these days - a shame because they used to make marvellous phones. My upgrade happens next week, so what will I "upgrade" to? A Samsung Galaxy SII I think. It has a Super AMOLED Plus screen, which apparently is superb and a dual core processor capable of being overclocked to 1.5Ghz. It has Flash 10.1 support and a nice large screen
Other than those things I am sure there will not be much difference and it will be fun comparing both phones.
That said another option is to wait as there are other phones on their way - ughh - dare I say the IP5? Absolutely not! Overpriced closed source and a phone for clowns who know no better lol!
