Clever Alan know's all

[ Edited ]

If any one wont's to know anything ill be glad to help , have now got it completely sussed out , and the only let down I can find is the lack of sat nav , which is surposed to be coming soon , although I do not know why nokia could not install a good sat nav app already with the technology they got is beyond me , o well if I worked for them they would have the best phone in the world on the market , that did it all , anyway for all those who haven't got far with there's yet there's games and apps at maemo.org , video is easy to put full movies on in under 2 mins here's how , connect phone on mass storage mode open movie file in a small screen , open computer an drag the movie over the phone icon an release it , box appears with transferring 1 file done in under 2 mins , music is easy through windows media player , just sync same as downloading to mp3 player , anything else just ask .

Re: Clever Alan know's all

ok clever cloggs...lol.  let's put it to the test...

my pc has media player shared so i can share videos, music and pictures from my pc wirelessly (ps3 and brrrrrrrravia tv can pick them up to).  So my N900 can see my pc's media sharing folders and can see all the files.  for some reason unknown to me presently, it only seems to play my music video files but not my tv series files.  why is this?  why does the mtv and other music videos play no problem but my tv shows buffer then stop after about 4 seconds?

Another similar question:

Why does BBC iPlayer not work  - I get sound but the pictures lag behind and just jump around - totally unwatchable.  Even more basic phones can run BBCiPlayer.

Current Devices:
N900, N97, 5800 & iPhone.
nukea - we will get the perfect device in the end (but not this year!)

Re: Clever Alan now's all

My bad, i guess i didn't explain my scenario correctly.  Downloading content onto the phone is fine.  no problems with that.  it's using media player to stream onto the phone.  streaming music video files is fine, but trying to stream a tv show seems to start for one second then the screen goes blank.

so, do you know all or are you going to redirect me?? lol

Well, you've had (Clever Alan) a while to come back and post some replies to the maemo queries posted but you've not posted jack.

I'm inclined to believe you're a flamer and you don't know jack about maemo or n900.  lol just like the labour and conservative politicians...talk a good game but come out with sh...

Re: Clever Alan now's all

black, what video format are the music videos? are both your music and tv all in divx? and i'm presuming you're using DLNA/UPNP via windows media player to stream to the N900/PS3?...

Since i don't have an N900, does the N900 have native support for divx? which brings me back to quaestion 1, what format are your files shared as?.... avi, mpg, mp4, it could simply be a case of not having the correct codecs...

failing that, google tversity, freeware app to replace media player, works far far better than MS's version.

Re: Clever Alan now's all

Interesting.  n900 comes native with divx.  the movies are avi and majority of music vids are avi but some are also mpg.

so you're saying google tversity works on n900?

Re: Clever Alan know's all

Cool. I also have the N97 and the E75. N97 is a Tsunmai disaster and should never have been released. The E75 is cool but limited. Now at last we have the N900, but.....

Before one can update software you are told to Backup. N900 won't backup to PC Suite (latest version) nor Ovi. Both don't recognise the N900 for Backup. So how do you backup.

Secondly Mxit doesn't recognise the N900 either. So how do you install Mxit?

Also you cannot assign ringtones to individual contacts.

Can you help.

Re: Clever Alan know's all

Gad1get, firstly, welcome to the forums.  The answers to your questions have already been posted in numerous threads within the maemo section of this website.  For your backup question, there is a backup utility on the phone already which backs up to your 32g drive.  alternatively you can backup to sdhc/mmc card.

You can't assign ringtones to contacts...yet...we just have to wait and see if a future firmware upgrade allows that capability.  for now you're stuck with the General and Silent profiles and one ringtone for all.
