Can I assign my favourite music track as my ringtone?

Does anyone know how to do this for ring tone, calendar alarm, received sms etc?

Most grateful if somebody could show me.

Happy new year.

Re: Can I assign my favourite music track as my ringtone?

Easy. For each of the tones you want to change, use the add button at the side.

They're all under settings menus.

Owned: Nokia 3510i, Nokia 3120, Nokia 6230i, Nokia 6233, Nokia N73, Nokia N82.

Current: Nokia N900!

Re: Can I assign my favourite music track as my ringtone?

Thanks for the reply.

I'm still not getting it though.

Where is the plus sign?

When I play the tune I would like to assign there is no way for me to add.

And when I go to settings and profiles and general, again there is no tab to add anything.

I think I'm being thick again aren't I?

Re: Can I assign my favourite music track as my ringtone?

So just to clarify what Tehrules has said, and make it a little clearer to follow.

This is what you do to change the ring tone to a music track.

  1. Menu
  2. Settings
  3. Profiles
  4. Press the grey box where it reads "Ringing tone" or "SMS alert"
  5. Add
Then search your N900 for your favourite track.
  6. Done
  7. Save

This is what you need to do to change your alarm tone to a music track.

  1. Menu
  2. Calender
  3. Press the top of the screen in the centre (there will be a drop down arrow)
  4. Settings
  5. Alarm tone
  6. Add your music track from your library.
  7. Done
  8. Save

I hope this helps

Re: Can I assign my favourite music track as my ringtone?

brilliant thanks.

Actually I could have worked it out for myself had I realised that when you go to profiles there are a whole load of other options if you scroll down.

So just for anyone as stupid as myself, make sure you try scrolling down as there are more options to be had.

Thanks for the answer, much appreciated.

Re: Can I assign my favourite music track as my ringtone - suggest solution fails on my machine!

Nah, I tried that, and my N900 reported "Internal Error. Application Settings closed."

I had selected a track from my "itunes music" folder - music that I had transferred from my Mac and which music plays very well thru the media player.  The file is therefore good.

I think that the settings application may be fussy about where the music for the ringtone is held and in particular how deeply down the tree of folders in the file system.  The music I selected was quite deep : itunes music, artist, album, track. That's a long file location to store as the ringtone path.  I will test some less deeply filed music, but I note that Nokia are not paying me to be their beta tester!

There should be a button labeled "More" that lets you browse for a file..

Settings, profile, scroll down and tap SMS alert, press More then browse for the file you'd like to use

I think..

I can select MP3 files, but not, apparently, AAC files.. which is strange since they were created by Ovi Music (ripping CD).. interesting..
