Hey Guys,
Since this is a Nokia Forum I dont know how many of you guys would like to speak anything apart from Nokia, But if any of you is Frank enough and can give me a Frank opinion. I would truly appreciate it.
Frankly speaking with most of the Fancy Features that the N900 offers it is a question, how many users choose to use it to its full potential. For a user like me I am gonna use my phone a lot to surf the web, check some cool sites etc...
I have been also checking out Motorola's Droid which has a 3.7" Inch screen with 16:9 wide screen Ratio the other day I had a chance to surf the web on it, and let me tell you guys it was a very good experience
. I have still not had my hands on the Nokia N900. Does the N900 also give the same viewing pleasure, which includes excellent picture quality, wide vieweing(what I mean by wide viewing is, not watching anything in constricted, narrow view) Real Life picture colours etc.
what I am saying is with the Droid I did not feel I was watching anything in a very constricted and Narrow view, is the experience and the feeling also the same with the N900 !
Any suggestions..please.
Cheers !

Yes, the web browser is the best there is.
I almost bought the Droid over the N900, but it misses a bunch of things, like smaller memory, no TV Out and some other stuff

No, I did not understand what you are saying.
R u saying the Internet browsing experience is better on the Droid ?
"And I am not talking about the Browser as in the software, I am talking about simple viewing comfort. Page displayed"

The Browser on the N900 is better than the Droid - it is better than every other browser for two reasons:
1) it isn't a 'mobile' browser, so you access the same sites as you would on a computer, whereas other phones usually give mobile formatted versions.
2) They render exactly as they do on a computer, so you don't need to scroll around.
And there is also portrait mode for the browser so if you want to view pages upright, you can, same as Droid.

How is the Picture, image quality of the web page displayed on the N900 is it better then the Droid. is it big enough ? (wide screen)

Yes and yes, the picture quality is magnificent

I'll second the picture quality being good. I've had a look at Android and although it was a pleasant experience I can't say I'm a huge fan of Google (I do use their search engine but that's as far as it goes), due to the fact that their privacy policies are always being called into question. And I find the majority of people I talk to that have Android based handsets are not that savvy where web security/privacy is concerned.
Youtube is excellent, and that's when browsing the full web version. With my old N95-8GB I got a great deal of "This media is not viewable on your browser". I haven't seen that once on the N900.

Still the browser cannot be used for maps.google.com and maps.ovi.com. Overall the browser is very good.

It seems, people have mistaken what I have asked. I am not talking about Browser compatibility I am only and only talking about Viewing angle, pleasure, comfort.
I dont know from where you guys have got a hint that I am talking about Browser compatibility ? ![]()

Your question has been answered numerous times. The browser is superb, i haven't mentioned compatibility. The visuals are stunning, it is a large display with crisp playback, pages render as they do on a computer

not really.... i've an android htc hero and n900.... there plus and minuses for each device and overall they're even. comparing them you can't really separate the browser app and the device itself as they both create a full browsing experience, for better or worse...so here goes (i'll just put the good and the bad of each browser in one go)
htc hero, what's good+bad
- multi touch on capacitive touch screen reaaaaaalllly help the overall experience
- auto-fit text content.... you zoom in, and the text will auto-fit the screen so you wont have to scroll right and left.
- almost desk-top browsing experience
n900, what's good+bad
- "closest" to desk-top browsing experience not quiet. try cnbc.com, you're always directed to the mobile version. even when you sort of "retype" the web address and you get to the desk-top version, page won't load.
- when a page has some sort of a window-area with a scroller, its quiet un-responsive, so you end up actually moving the whole page up and down. (its like when you type in your comment in this forum, the area in which you type in your comment can scroll, now when you want to scroll this area up and down, you end up scrolling the whole page).
- double tap to zoom, but in a lot of cases, still the web text isnt big enough to read, so when you zoom in more, you have to move the page right and left to read the article because it doesnt auto fit.
but the final verdict, if you ask me which one i prefer, i have to say my htc hero has a better overall experience.

Guess I'll add my little bit but it will be from a very narrow point of view as I have not used any other phones for browsing the web other than older Nokia phones. I have found using the N900 very good nice clear pages that refresh very quick if in a good 3G or 3.5G area, I use the phone for work and the browser is very important for me and I'm very pleased with it, the screen is very very clear and some people don’t seem to like the zoom feature on the N900 but it seems ok to me and have no problems using it. As for the screen size I think that if you don’t like using the small screen on these phones for browsing then why not use a laptop that won’t fit in your pocket. Trying to fit a desktop PC in your pocket you have to compromise on something’s and the screen is always going to be one that will suffer the most, but the N900 and how you can view the web pages seems to be a very good compromise so over all I'm very happy with the browsing experience on the N900 and love that I can play hundreds of flash games on the phone from the many sites that have flash games on them, even some of the old classic "Space Invader, Pac Man" and so on.
Well that’s my little bit hope it helps you make your decision.

"MrOddJob" So you are saying while surfing the internet, the view is nice and big with the screen (I am sure it cannot be very big) but it is not very narrow, that you feel that you ware watching something in a very narrow view. Right ?

The screen size specification is posted. You can compare it to others in its class. It is virtually the same as other "large screen" phones.
It works and looks just fine as others have stated numerous times. Do you understand?

Are you trolling?
The picture is big on the screen, in that it renders well. The screen is large for a phone but it is still small because it is a phone
What is so difficult to understand here?

That is because some dumb people here have started talking about Browser compatibility, how is the browser to use on N900 and stuff like that. When I have in plain, simple english just asked how does it feel to surf the web on the screen of N900 (View, & Picture Quality) when compared to the DROID thats it !! I dont think I was mincing words or I was not clear with my question. How the hell people have started giving me answers on Browser and stuff like that, when that was not atall my question. Now do u guys understand ?? people who all are asking me if I have understood or not ? ![]()

I've just read through this entire thread and can honestly say your question has been answered at least three times.
Not perfect, due to the screen size. But you can say that about the iPhone, Droid, SEVivaz, N97(mini), Blackberry etc...etc...etc. But you can say it's better than most others because of it's higher resolution screen. Scrolling is smooth, images are clear and sharp (again due to the high res screen).
But you know what the dumbest thing about it is? We've struggled for 5 days during which time you could have jumped the bus and visited a plethora of mobile retailers that stock the N900 and tried it for yourself. Just like we did. ![]()
@ elie7: As said in my other post, Flash 10.1 has already been demo'd on the N900 (there is a video on Youtube), so I think it's almost certain that we'll see it on there.
As for Google Chrome on the N900, The browser will use the version that's available on the device. I did try Chrome but at the time the zoom feature hadn't been implemented so it was a little hard going. Firefox/Fennec on the other hand is still very much a new thing for mobiles so I think it will go through quite a lot of changes before it's a good solid browsing experience. At present I find it so quirky to use, from an interface point of view. I'd still like Opera on N900 though. ![]()

Hi just stumbled across this video on You Tube so maybe this will give you a better idea about the N900 screen and also browsing hope it helps.
