Hello!
I have experienced few issues with my N9.
Firstly, I ran into network failure. Suddenly, I lost all connections with all networks. I couldn't use Internet or call anyone even though the area I was in had full 3G coverage. I left the phone like that for few days thinking it's normal, until I finally shut down and restarted the phone, and suddenly everything worked like charm, Internet and 3G networks were available again.
This is when I ran into the battery drainage issue. I have installed Battery Usage, and after the reboot, the app detected battery drainage. I attached 2 showing the info from Battery Usage. Are the numbers shown by Battery Usage normal? Could this problem be caused due to the loss of Internet connection (Apps relying on Internet connection using more power now that they have the connection or something like that)?

HeyJebe, Welcome to the Nokia forums!
The average battery should last around 2 days aslong as it is not being used heavily (constant streaming of videos/music).
Applications that run off of a constant connection to the internet would drain your battery aswell as bluetooth so if you are looking to extend the life of your battery per charge you can deactivate some applications from automatically connecting to the internet.
Menu> Settings> Internet Connections> from here you can allow or disable background connections
I hope this helps with your issue!

@Sheldrick "Menu > Settings > Availability >" ... which model are you talking about? There is no such setting on the N9.

@Since_6110 I apologise, I was indeed using a different version of the N9. Thank you for pointing that out! I have edited my original post.

Well, I depleted and recharged the battery and restarted the device several times and now the Battery Usage shows normal values. I didn't change any options or disconnect from networks, so I guess the battery was just playing around since my phone is brand new and I haven't recharged it many times.

one thing i have notice is that when plugged in the n9 charges fully but then it seems to switch off charging entirely and run on battery - even though still plugged in. like most people i plug it in when i go to bed, however i noticed the earlier i go to bed, the lower the charge is in the morning. hence it charges fully then charging switches off leaving it to run on battery from (say) 1230am to 7am.. hence i start the day with 90, 91 or 92%. if i go to bed earlier it starts with even less charge.
this can't be right, surely....

Good to here that
Hopefully, we will also be able to use that different version

@Since_6110,
That's also how the N900 works. I think it's a way to protect the battery (from the constant charging). Would be solved if the N900/N9 would be able to also run directly from the charger, but that's apparently not the case..

is it possible that it behaves this way with a bberry charger on non nokia charger only? i think with the nokia charger (and the extremely generous 1 foot long usb/charging cable) it worked ok and i had 99% in the morning. ??? thanks for responding, btw.

The same thing happened to me, the networks didn't go away though! I only had the battery drained overnight, also mine showed 229 mA (!). Now it's back to nromal - but i am sceptic to using the device if i can't trust the battery life at all... My phone is also brand new (had it 2 days). So is this a known issue thats being approached in the "1.1" version? Or is as someone mentioned an issue with brand new batteries..? Though i have never experienced it on other phones.

I have been having a drainage issue as well on my N9 64 GB.
I did 2 things:
1. Downloaded the Battery Usage app from Ovi or the store or whatever it is - it is free & good. Just help me monitor things.
2. I turned off the "Allow background connections" in settings.
It is definitely the background connections doing the draining for me - Idle mA was over 200 while it was active & now it is well below 50 (I think it will end up around 30mA). It is a pain bcause the background stuff is quite a nice feature but I will see if the next patch will fix it.

Yesterday was the first time I've had this drainage and according to resource monitor it was the "messaging" process that took almost all CPU time. Had to restart the phone to get rid of that. As long the idle current stays below 30mA it's OK for me ![]()
Awaiting PR1.1 with all 3500 fixes ![]()

Hey I am still having this issue post-update.
Average mA with background connections turned on can vary but it can go as high as 60mA. Essentially my battery drains in about 5-6 hours.
I have Skype, Facebook, Email & Nokia accounts open.
If I turn it off then it drops to 10-14mA.
While that fixes it it also really kills one of the key appeals of the N9 - that always on, always connected, contact anyone anyhow goodness.
My wife has the 16gb version and when I checked her N9 was doing 16mA with background connections turned on. However she only had her nokia account in it. Tonight I will check it again now that I added Facebook & Email to it this morning.
