Hello I hope someone can help me resolving my N9 issues… i got the new nokia n9 64 Gb unlocked from vodafone AU and i am facing the following issues with the phone:
- avg battery idle time consumption is 35-40mAh is that normal??, the phone gets hot from the back, it appears that there is something draining the battery while there is not open apps.
-when I setup my hotmail account, it downloads all my inbox emails regardless specifying the number of messages to be downloaded on the phone in the settings.
- My exchange email does not work, it cannot connect to server, I can only see the folders…
-Loudspeaker is very low i even miss incoming calls as i cannot hear the phone ringing sometime.(volume is set to max)
I did a soft and then hard reset as advised by Nokia and i am still facing the same issues... any idea how to resolve these problems? I am still using PR1.0 as 1.1 is still not available for Australian's vodafone branded N9s
Thank you

That sounds a little on the high side. Have a look at the thread below and see if rings any bells.

Hello
Thanks for your help. I actually hard reset the phone again and installed the RSCS monitor app and the battery usage app. i tried selecting all 3 modes including power save mode and the weird thing is that there is always 25% 30% system usage when the system is idle but none of the 2 applications was able to specify what’s in use... I rang Vodafone and apparently i will have to go to a Vodafone shop and get the handset replaced....
Hopefully the new one will not have the same battery issue... and hope version 1.1 will fix the exchange, hotmail issues and increases the loudspeaker volume...

to add up, for some reason the RAMs are over 90% in use at all times ... hard reset didn't fix the issue...

Hello
apparently this issue is mostly happening on the 64GB version. My friend is using the 16GB black and its working fine the battery lasts up to 2 days ... Try to download the RSCSMonitor application from the ovi store and monitor the CPU and system memory (RAM and ROM) usages.
I will let you know if this happens with the new handset as i will be getting a new replacement one through vodafone soon.

- avg battery idle time consumption is 35-40mAh is that normal??,
My N9 was on that level after upgrading to 1.1 ... but then, I disabled fb and fb feed by disabling fb account (in accounts) and then, re-enabling fb account a little later again ... my avg. battery idle consumption is 10 - 14 now (before 35-40, just like yours)... so I suggest that you will try to disable your accounts and feeds for a moment and check how it change your avg. idle consumption ...

Hello
the ideal power consumption for the N9 on idle mode if most of the applications are not in use is between 10-15mAh. i tried to hard reset the phone couple of times and had the phone running on power save mode and all apps were closed but still no change... i monitored the CPU usage its normal 0 1 2 %... but some of the OS processes are using too much RAM memory . once i start using the phone for couple of minutes it gets warm from the back ... the battery only lasts 7 to 8 hours on normal usage... Hopefully PR1.1 will fix the issue but the new firmware is yet to be released in Australia and will take a while before it get released for the branded phones anyway.
I will get a new replacement phone from Vodafone soon i will let you guys know if i face any issues with the new handset.
Also is anyone finding the loudspeaker/ringing volume too Low? I think this might be one of reasons Nokia is not activating the video calling feature as you will not be able to hear the person on the other end unless you are in a 100% quite environment...

Hello, I had the same problem with fast discharging of battery.
With the update to PR1.1 was everything fine like before. The standby/working time was about 2-3 days.
On Monday I installed Restartme (size 0,15 MB) from the Nokia Store. During the installing process I was asked to download additional 2,5 MB. I agreed.
After the installing the developermode was activated and all the programs/apps of this Link
site was installed .
Since this the accumulator standby/working time was about maximum 1 day and avg idle about 50 mA .
Like on the Nokia Developer site described is the best way to reset the device back to its original state after using developer mode to flash it. For this I used the Nokia Software Updater.
After getting the original state the avg idle went back to about 15 mA and a standby/working time like it was before activating developer mode.

I finally received the new replacement Nokia N9 64GB from Vodafone.
The avg Idle power usage on the new phone is 12mAh which is perfect.
i hard reset the old phone took the sim out. Unfortunately the avg idle power usage did not change it is still around 35mAh... which most probably means there is a hardware issue.
Another thing i noticed is the difference between cameras and the picture quality.
The camera lens on the new phone seems to absorb more light which might not always be something + I still didn't download the fotos on my pc to be able to judge but if anyone is interested i can upload some..

my avg idle consumption is 56mA from the app called battery usage.
does that means mine has some problems inside too?
(i only got my N9 yesterday...)
i am running on PR1.1 (20.2011.40-4_PR_005)
thanks

hello
It all depends on what is running in the background email facebook skype .... if your internet is not active and you are not using the phone the avg usage should be 8 to 15mAh.
i fixed my first phone by mistake. i left the battery to 100% drain for 2 days and it reset all the hardware/software and now it is apparently working fine. But i noticed a big difference between the new device vodafone sent me lately and the one I got 3 weeks ago. The display screen colour and the camera picture quality are not the same. The display screen colour on the 1st one is more like green and the camera picture quality is perfect and very clear, but the display screen on the new is more like red and the pictures are bit blurry/over coloured somehow ...

Hi, all:
I have experienced same problem of fast battery drain on N9.
idle battery useage was too high (~100mA). I cleared the device to fix the problem. It was fine for about 2 days with idel battery usage of ~12mA.
However, the problem returns again since two days ago. The idel battery usage gradually & steadily increase: 20mA, 30mA, 40mA, 50mA, till 80mA.
cannot use a phone so unstable.

My N9 also has a high idle consumption (44mA). I've just disabled the Facebook and Twitter updates in Accounts. I'll post the results when I get them.
I've also noticed my battery doesn't load fully to100%. It's only at 99% when I get the message that it's fully charged. Both Battery Monitor as Settings > Device > Battery give the same percentage. Did someone else notice this?

I just try to give an advice how to improve your N9 battery life ... you should get easily 2 days by average use and 1 day even with very heavy use ... yes, when settings are properly done, N9 battery life is really great ... first, installed apps do NOT eat battery, only running ones are eating your battery ... and avoid also "too" bright display as it is eating your battery fast too - higher brightness eats more battery, so avoid unnecessary brightness .... There is a great little apps, Battery Usage apps, it is very good program to find out what is eating your battery (you can download it from Nokia Store), just pay attention that there is a little word "more" on right corner of Battery Usage window, from where you can find consumptions by mA - pay special attention for "Avg. Idle" consumption as it should be 8 - 14 mA level, if your internet is NOT active and you have NOT any apps running (active apps) ... if you are, for example, available in fb (online in Facebook with internet connection), then it might be 20 - 40 mA level depending on your internet connection (3G / Wi-Fi) ... well, there is many apps, some are eating your battery very fast, like internet radio, Skype and Gtalk, BUT only when you are using them (not as installed apps) - so you are online by them, so avoid to use them for no reason - if you are using these 3 apps at home or at work, I suggest you charging your N9 all the time ... well, there is some other small things how to improve your battery life, but I think that the most important ones are on the above, which ones can make your battery life very short with unproper settings ...

My n9 battery charge didn't last overnight. I solved this way:
1. Set the screen brigthness to 40% or lower.
2. Activate battery energy saving to 50%.
3. Close all applications.
4. Disconnect internet connections.
5. Disconnect Bluetooth.
With these settings the phone goes overnight with 5% of the
battery charge. At iddle average current comsumption is
between 3-4mA.
Good luck.
