Warranty Question

Hey guys, seem to be having a fair few problems with my 5800 in the past few days which kinda sucks. My Memory Card has been "corrupted" and i've lost nearly 6 gig of files. Even if it is formatted, it works for a coupla  seconds then corrupts again. My question is would this be covered under the warranty? (my phone is 3 moths old)

As always, many thanks

Re: Warranty Question

If it is the card that came with the phone then it should be. You should contact your local Nokia Care Centre.

You can find your nearest Nokia Care Point at:

For UK

For Europe:

Re: Warranty Question

I know that the warranty on the memory card is not the full 12 (or 24 in the EU) months. If it counts as an accessory then the warranty will probably only be 90 days, so yours is a borderline case if the phone is 3 months old.

Re: Warranty Question

I would still try if it is just over. You never know and you won't get unless you ask. Go for it. You've nothing to lose.

Warranty Period

The warranty period starts at the time of Product's original purchase by the first end-user. The Product may consist of several different parts and different parts may be covered by a different warranty period (hereinafter "Warranty Period"). The different Warranty Periods are:

  1. Twenty-four (24) months for the mobile device and twelve (12) months for accessories (whether included in the mobile device sales package or sold separately) other than the consumable parts and accessories listed in (b) and (c) below;
  2. six (6) months for the following consumable parts and accessories batteries, chargers, desk stands, headsets, cables and covers; and
  3. ninety (90) days for the media on which any software is provided, e.g. CD-rom, memory card.

I was reading the warranty statement attached above. Was there any software in the memory card when you got it or was it empty? If it was empty you could argue that it is an accessory as per 1.. Item 3. specifically refers to media with software provided.

I suppose we are grasping at straws. :smileyhappy:

Re: Warranty Question

When I got mine it wasn't empty. It had UK maps on it, some music, a bunch of videos and photos and I forget what else.

What we don't know is where the OP is and whether the same warranty conditions apply.

Re: Warranty Question

True enough. I only checked two of them, Europe and APAC. The statement was pretty much the same except the 24 months for the phones itself in Europe. I presume the rest of the world is pretty much the same.

Still it would be mean to refuse warranty for being a few days over. :smileyhappy:

Re: Warranty Question

It would!

Still, if you don't ask, you don't get. The worst they can say is "no, you're out of the warranty period".

OTOH, if it's the phone that's the cause, and not the memory card, then that should be taken care of under warranty.
