Hi there,
I'm, also experiencing some issues with this new firmware, 31.0.101. Just after the upgrade, every time I try to turn on the phone, it get stucks in the white initial screen with the word nokia in the center (never made it to the shaking hands presentation). In this cases, I have no other choice but to remove the battery, otherwise, it will remain like that. Even today in the morning, I had to do this cycle several times in order to make the phone works.
Besides that, before the upgrade, I had installed a game that I can't uninstall now. Every time I try to do it, there's a warning message that says something like "some application must be closed first.......", I had already seem this message before when I unistalled an application, but this time, after pressing "Yes", the phone restarts, and when I checked the applications menu, the game still remains

Yes, I get exactly that as well. After upgrading to v 31 the battery life has rocketed downwards. The battery meter shows full and within a few hours, not using it, it shows 1 or 2 bars and then turns off. On turning it on, the battery meter shows full again!!!!!!!!
The phone also turns off on it's own sometimes up to 4 times in a few minutes. Other times it stays on until turned off by me. I haven't changed any settings, so I need to know how on earth it can switch itself off, an action which requires holding down the on/off button. I might add that before the 'upgrade' the phone worked perfectly. mmmmmh (battery or software) no virus.
This is not what I expected from Nokia of all people and I do not seem to be alone in this predicament.

The phone refused to turn on again tonight. I had to recharge it to make it turn on, even though it was working only a few hours before and had been charged ''again'' the night before. I can't be carrying a charger around just in case the phone needs charging. I have had enough of this, a new battery will only do the same. I am switching to HTC asap.
The battery for the phone is too unrealiable. My Sony Ericsson K750, which I have had for donkey's years poses no problems at all and the battery life is streets ahead of Nokia. I know it doesn't have the need for power like the Nokia does but when I need it it is there.

Damn! it's happening once again!!! my phone just doesn't want to turn on!!!. Since the last time I wrote, It had been working fine till this morning. I press the power button, the phone starts, shows the white screen with the word nokia in the center, and then............. nothing happens.
I haven't figure out a way to make it work, if anyone out there knows how, your help would be really appreciated. Meanwhile the phone it's just a black brick, its useless while it's off!!

Hi josefd8
Presumably you have already tried to start device without memory card in place? Unfortunately a trip to a Nokia Care Point to re-install the firmware is now looking increasingly likely.

Hi,
Memory card was in place all the time. After like 15 tries, the phone finally turned on (while booting process, I pressed repeatedly green and red buttons). I Don't know it that actually do something, but at least worked for me.
Thankfully, just before upgrading, I did a complete back up, so maybe I was thinking to hard reset the phone and then reinstall all over again. If I try to do a complete back up again (having this bug), hard reset, and then load it to the phone, wont this back up file inherit the bug?

Hi josefd8
If I've got a working phone I usually tend to backup to memory card so if OVI Suite restore goes pear shaped, hopefully there will be something positive to fall back on. Was original game that might have caused issues installed to phone or card memory?

Hi,
The problem probably was caused by that game. I installed it on the memory card, so maybe I will have to remove it manually. This morning, the problem showed up once again. I tried this time to remove the memory card and turn on the phone that way (with no memory card inserted), and the phone went on just fine. But its kind of annoying because some settings are erased (wallpaper, music library synchronization.......)
I will try to hard reset the phone and load it the last backup I did, just before upgrade it to V31. I will take your advise into consideration too (back up to memory card as well), you never know when things can go wrong......

Before you do that... Take your memory card... insert it into a PC. And Right-Click->Properties->Tools->Check the drive for errors...and set Windows to automatically fix errors...
I had that happen to me. Phone dropped. It was running software from the card. The card moved in the phone. Corrupted something. I ran chkdsk and then my phone would boot again with the card in.

I'be upgraded to V 31.0.101 in September.
Since then, it has been a nightmare:
-Sluggish phone
-Awful battery (lasts only a day, if so)
-Can't "reply" to text messages, because the senders number doesn't "arrive" with the +sign. I can see the name of the sender, but simply CAN'T reply - the message stays in the "sending state", since it doesn't recognize the number without the international +
It was a nice phone before the update...
Hope a new firmware comes out soon, or I'll simply smash my ten month old 5800xm with a hammer...

Got this one too:
usually the battery lasts for 6 or so days, but sometimes all of these happen:
- the phone is very slow - after disconnecting it takes a second or so to redraw the clock and another one to respond to the green button
- the battery dies after some 3 hours after recharging (phone left unused, no applications shown in app list)
- the power button doesn't work (no menu shows up)
- in this state I have tried to go to Settings->Phone and the phone hung up completely - had to remove the battery to get it working again.
Happened to me 3 times since update. I have no apps installed and use only browser (via wifi), USB, phone, and sometimes OVI Maps.
After restarting everything works fine for a while.
Also, I have set my alarm clock to 6.20 every work day. Not touched anything for some months. Today I have noticed that the phone rings at 6.24, and after snooze at 6.43 (but displays Alarm-6.39). I guess that I need to reset this one too.

I have v 31.0.008, out of all the problems listed here, i am facing three:
1. battery life reduced. (level falls very fast sometimes)
2. alarm set for 5:30 will ring up at 5:34. (sometimes at 5:33, donno how, out of logic)
3. gets switched off on its own (very disturbing, you have it in your pocket and you never know someone is trying hard to call you, and may be you are waiting for that call)

Hi, I have cracked the problem with the phone turning off. It is a fitment problem that Nokia have missed. The taking of the battery out and in wears the pins and sockets. The battery must move and then turns the phone off. I bent the pins slightly and the problem went away; contact all the time. I dont recommend this to anyone, if they are ham-fisted, because of permanent damage. I was careful and used trial and error until it was successful. Having to take the battery out to change the card is a stupid idea but there we go.
Phone works well and maintains its charge.
Anyone else tried this. If so let me know if it was successful or whether you have cracked the problem some other way.

The only problem I have noticed with this new firmware is the buttons can become non responsive sometimes, having to press them several times to work, mainly the exit, options, cancel, select and back buttons.
Also texting the space button works sometimes, so it looks like it's mainly the botton row of buttons

First try this :
Take the SD card out. Plug it into a PC and run a check disk on it, Fix anything wrong. Insert it back in your phone and try again.
