Is nokia 3230 worth buying?

Hi guys, I hwas about to buy 3230 when suddenly I came across some reviews and I found out that nokia 3230 is giving its owners hard time, like strange beep before call or sms alert, hangups, slow operation, bad quality camera, crappy mp3 player sound. Can you guys tell me if these problems are resolved now or not, because if these problems have been solved by nokia then I will buy 3230. So GUYS please help me out here.

avoid the phone on the orange network at all costs. if you get the 3230 with firmware version 4.0537.0, i believe most of the faults have now been fixed. the beep is supposed to be a warning tone incase a ringtone is set loud and its near your ear when the phone rings (cannot understand why it is only needed on a 3230 though??) anyway, in the new firmware it is supposed to be 10db quieter (but because I'm on orange I'm not allowed to have this fixed firmware)

I second that. I've had 6 Orange branded handsets and all have been faulty so avoid it like the proverbial plague.

Myself and rich_enduro are allies in fighting Orange regarding this poxy phone. So far I have involved trading standards, watchdog and i'm looking into the contacting the national press too.

rich_enduro, on the very few occasions that the phone has turned on briefly I have managed to check the software and it has been v 4.0537.0 the 'warning' tone is quieter but still remains pointless. I cannot comment on improvements in other areas as the phone does not stay on long enough.
If you get a handset replacement then it should have the latest firmware but as you know, the replacements I've received have been equally poor

interesting. is it still an orange Homescreen branded handset they've sent you?
i shall phone up tomorrow to see if nokia will install this version onto my phone.
Is the voice dial now working from the right softkey (as described in the instructions) with this firmware?
cheers

Re: Is nokia 3230 worth buying?

Hi Rich,

In answer to your questions, yes the phone is orange branded. One of my early handsets had old firmware on it, the date on it was Feb 2005 but can't remember the exact version. My local Nokia Service Centre agreed to re-flash it with v4.0537.0 back in October so it is possible and Orange are spinning you lies as usual! Unfortunately the phone lasted one day before it packed up. I suggest you get your model replaced, it will probably be a refurb but more than likely have latest firmware.

I can't give you an answer on voice dialling as the phone doesn't stay on for very long before it dies. If I can get any joy out of it this weekend I will try for you and keep you informed

"thank god orange dont do a forum!!!"

My sentiments exactly. I think the moderators would have their work cut out removing all the abuse posted on an Orange forum lol!

There is a moral to this story.... and that is to dump the fruit, the future is no way bright!

Re: Is nokia 3230 worth buying?

Hi fellas, You all started to comment on Orange but GUYS please "N3230" is it worth buying? Please man I still did not get any satisfactory answers, should or should I not buy N3230, and I am to buy an unlocked sim free cell phone so plaese I need your advice on quality of the phone, its stability, what do u guys suggest? also please tell if you know what hardware and software problems exist with this cell phone, the problems I have come to know are that N3230 would reboot while playing games, one can not use its applications exclusively because phone would reeboot or hang and that its joy stick is of low quality. PLEASE tell is it all true? Are the new N3230 phones coming into the market have these problems or these problems were related to early release of this set.
I await your reply so as to make my decision on buying N3230 or some other cell phone.

Re: Is nokia 3230 worth buying?

orange faults aside. its not a bad phone. one other problem is with its dust seal. mine screen is full of dust. i'm not sure about the joystick problem, i really like the joystick. i prefer it over the n70's.
at the end of the day. it all just comes down to what you want from it. if i was getting a phone now i would be tempted to go for the newer n70 or the n80. if you're really after the benefits of a symbian phone and for the price, i don't think you'll be too disappointed with a Sim free 3230.

Re: Is nokia 3230 worth buying?

Hi guys, I am new member, I have N3230 and the screen just goes blank! but I can still make and recieve calls. It never drop or impact. I brought it to NPC and they've made some works, they replace the firmware to 5.0604.x, but i still have the same problems. I think NOKIA should fix this problem, cause i heard too many people who bought N3230 got same problem. Please, what should i do?????? :smileysad:
