6650 fold Display Bug

Hi,

I have aquired the new Nokia 6650 fold from T-Mobile and I seem to have the following very annoying issue.

Whenever I receive or make a call the cover display keeps showing the number called/calling after I have finished the call. The cover display does not seem to respond to user input (although there is an option shown to end the call). However, on the main display everything is normal after the call.

The only way to get the original screen back to the cover display seems to be restarting the phone.

I find this bug extremly annoying, and I can't imagine this has not been detected by Nokia when testing the software. So maybe I'm doing something wrong. Does anybody have any clue about what to do?

Here is a few data of the phone software as shown by *#0000#:

Software Version: 03.09
Software Version Date: 16-05-08
Custom Version: 03.09.TMD.03
Custom Version Date: 26-May-2008
Language Set: 02.02
Model: 6650d-1c
Type: RM-400

Thanks in advance.

Re: 6650 fold Display Bug

Me, too.

the real problem is that the phone does not go into stand-by any more which probably means it drains the battery.

I made the following experience, which could have something to do with the problem:
After exiting the pc suite I wasn't able to release/ disconnect the 6650 device from windows since a process named service layer.exe (including 2 sub processes) still accesses the phone.
This nokia process starts with the connecting of the phone (via usb) but does not finish itself when exiting the pc suite. The phone remains connected and can only be released correctly if the process is killed via the task manager. Meaning: the phone won't be disconnected correctly - which could eventually result in this error somehow.

Anyone experienced this as well?

It is a PHONE CONTACT STORAGE PROBLEM and there is a WORKAROUND:

1. The "freezing" does not happen with unknown callers - callers not stored in the phone contacts or callers hiding their number.
(if phone storage is activated, and SIM storage deactivated)

So, changing the standard storage from telephone to SIM card weakens the problem! (all telephone stored contacts copied to SIM card, and both types shown in contact list)

2. Someone changed his phone two times but it occurred again with both new phones. Don't bother sending it back...

Re: 6650 fold Display Bug

Hm,

so there is nothing we can do to really solve the problem except waiting for a software update? How likely is it that there will be a bugfix release in the near future? :smileywink:

I still can't believe this error has passed undetected Nokia's quality control when producing the phone software...

Best regards.

Re: 6650 fold Display Bug

Well,

I made a few calls and what I learned was that the posts in this so called SUPPORT forum probably wont "itch" anyone at Nokia.

Wonderfully, Nokia has not bug report support - all software updats result from the results of the nokia testers.
I sent an email to the support and the answer was thanks, we write it down but cant help any further. Nokia doesnt give a sh***!
Some got his third 6650 having the same bug - the problem should already be known by nokia!
As for myself I can hardly believe the testers didnt experience this but they did! (On the other hand it is a quite special condition that causes the error...)

Meaning: there is a good chance of no software update removing this serious bug.

What remains is returning the telephone and picking another one!
Unfortuantely for me it is the only one that suits my needs.
Or lets hope for a miracle...

Re: 6650 fold Display Bug

I have 6650 fold in Polish Era Gsm and i have the same problem.
I probably found temporary solution:
You must activate ext display animation:
settings->Phone sett.->General->Personalisation->Themes->Cover display->Closing animation->Default

I recive and execute few calls and i don't have ext display hang ons. Mayby this is solution for time when Nokia release firmware update.
Please test it and report it here

Re: 6650 fold Display Bug

Mine is on T mobile with the same problem. I thought I had done something wrong when I had finished a phone call as the number hung on the front fascia and the only way I could clear it was by switching the phone off. My phone only started doing this after I had connected it to the pc suite on my computer to back up numbers etc. It seems to hang on just one mobile number which is one I edited on the pc? I have yet to find out having only had the phone a week whether there are more.

Re: 6650 fold Display Bug

Hi,

I think it is the same for me.
The error did not occur from the first start of the phone. I am pretty sure it started after using the PC Suite on the phone though I dont know if it in special was caused by editing the contacts with the suite.

I returned my phone a few days ago and I am totally unsure what to do to get my cvs-exported contacts back on the phone without causing the software bug.
Unfortunately I missed during all my "debugging" tests to check if only PC Suite edited contacts cause it.

Thanks for sharing your experiences and keep me up to date, guys!

Re: 6650 fold Display Bug

Hi, I am quite unsure, but I think activating the closing animation for the cover display did not really help.

There were still some contacts where the display bug occured. Since the first thing I did was to copy all contacts from my old phone to the new one using PC-Suite, I can't exactly tell whether the bug was apparent or not before that.

However, I manually started re-creating some of the important contacts using the phone and it seems as if the bug does not occur with them. I have to do some further testing, though.

If it's a PC-Suite bug in that way that it somehow stores the contacts in a faulty way, are there any other means to import the conctacts from my old Nokia 6310 phone?

Best regards.

Re: 6650 fold Display Bug

Hi,

I got some news, guys.

I got my 6650 back and I did the following:

I imported the contacts.cvs (which I exported from the bugged 6650 before I returned it) with PC Suite.
The bug dows not occur anymore. I assume the editing of the contacts via PC Suite might cause the display error...
I dont wanna try it though...

Keep me up to date.

@luftschlage: try to export your contacts as cvs oder another file format!

Re: 6650 fold Display Bug

Hi Jana,

that sounds very promising! Now, I already recreated on the phone itself most of the important contacts, so the bug has become less annoying for me.

But, I suppose for the rest of the contacts I could export them (to cvs), then delete them on the phone, and import them back. I'll definitely give it a try and report whether this works.

Hi

This is a good idea to treat the ext display problem.
When i've seen the bug at the very first time,
I was disappointed.
My solution is similar to yours:
go to the menu item where you can change the ext display brightness.
Simple press ok, without any modification.
On my 6650d is working.

But i have a question, can I enlarge the system font size somehow?
Do you have any suggestion?

thx czernayk

Re: 6650 fold Display Bug

I have just all the problems described below. The software version is also still the same as in the first article here.

And i also have changed my first device because of problems with other software versions. But the bug now was a new one.

My dealer's opinion is actually to return the phone completely.

Now I tried the description from Robert and up to now the bug with the hang up was fixed up to now.

Re: 6650 fold Display Bug

Hello all,

Just one week in my posession. I also used PC suite, after which I experienced the same problem. I'm pretty sure that is cause. Resetting the phone is no use: the next caller appeared in the cover display to stay. Of course all the personal settings were lost when resetting.

If there was a way to disable the display I wouldn't mind. I'm not using the phone as a personal accessory. The annoying thing is that the "end" button keeps beeping will having the phone in your hand or even in your pocket. You'll have to wait until the phone goes to sleep. Apart from that I think the battery life suffers from it.

Any one an idea for disabling the cover ?

If You backup your contacts (contacts->Options->Backup) on Memory Card, delete all contacts and restore contacts from backup Your Nokia no more hang on.
Of course if not synchronize with PC Suite
