Just noticed this "@" sign on my E63 on the upper right hand side next to the Wireless LAN sign (4 square boxes).

The @ sign is now always there even after restarting the phone.  This was not the case before.

I have disabled any apps that automatically connects to internet or emails but still the same.

 

Any idea?

If you have no new emails, please see if you have any unsent SMS's or emails in the outbox of your messaging software.

It means unread email or email in the outbox. The Message (envelope) icon means you have unread SMS.you'll also get a WLAN (4 tiny squares) and Bluetooth icons there indicating that such features are in use.
