continously growing "Other files" any remedy yet in E75

This thread has been on this forum before under different names.

but i still havent seen a solution.

so am asking a solution has been found.

I thought it was limited to some E75 devices but i just got a replacement from the Nokia care point and the "other files" is still growing in the new device.

Is this being experienced by any other E75 owner?

I am asking for a PERMANENT SOLUTION not doing hard resets which is temporary.

Pigs might fly... The only response we've had is along the lines of "it's definitely third party software causing this, but we don't know what".

Pardon my French, but b*ll*cks...

I have no proof, but have a hunch that it is related to MfE / Nokia Messaging... Hopefully, one day we will find out...

Perhaps it is third party software, but we've had no help whatsoever with advice on how to see what those "Other Files" are. There must be a way to view them, but we're not being told.

Re: continously growing "Other files" any remedy yet in E75

Charles, do you use E75 too.
This problem is just crazy.
do u have any idea if its a problem faced by all E75 phones?
third party software? the same third party softwares installed in other phones, third party softwares that is supposed to be installed in phones.
i have heard of that reason too, it makes no sense.

anyways, lets kip our fingers crossed and kip hoping.

Re: continously growing "Other files" any remedy yet in E75

I do, yes...

I think the problem is likely to be common to all E75 phones, but most likely to only be seen by people, such as you and me, who use their phones in a specific way or perhaps we do have an app installed that is causing the problem.

I admit that my usage of Nokia Mail / MfE is quite heavy, as I have a fair number of sub-folders and get a lot of email traffic into them from various discussion groups, so this may be contributing to the problem.

Subsequent to my last reset, I have changed my email retention setting to 1 week and so far my free memory has been fairly stable between 40 and 45MB.

I am trying to steer clear of my third-party apps but do use Nimbuzz, TSMobiles and Best Safe fairly often.

Re: continously growing "Other files" any remedy yet in E75

Hola everyone!

Like I said in the other thread (E75 20x SW related), we couldn't figure this out with the backups which have been delivered to us. In some cases the backup didn't contain any extra information and there were loads of free space on C-drive and with one backup the amount of free space was a bit less (10-20MB if I remember correctly), but we couldn't figure out if some of the data was "extra" which shouldn't have been there. So it's basically impossible to figure out what is causing the problem as to me it seems like this data is not backed up, so we'd need the actual device which is in this kind of state so that we could see what is the problem (if there are any volunteers, send me a PM!).

Anyhow, only thing which might help is that if you're using MfE and you're running out of free space on phone memory, then it's worth a shot to reduce the window from which emails are synchronized (Email => Settings => MfE => What to Sync). The amount of free space on E75 is not too generous and heavy email users might encounter similar problem.

Re: continously growing "Other files" any remedy yet in E75

thanks laitos for the input. Am not a heavy email user and am using the memory card and not the phone memory for messages,i guess emails inclusive. I sent my former device which had just abt 1MB free to the nokia car point in UK as you advised but they couldnt fix it in 2wks hence the new device which also has the same bloated other files as the old one. Charles seems to be doin just fine with his phone memory i wonder y mine is worse, currently at 20mb.

Re: continously growing "Other files" any remedy yet in E75

Hi again,

If I remember correctly, emails can't be stored on memory card and the message storage selection only affects SMS and MMS. I'll check this when I get back to the office tomorrow, but if my memories are correct, this was the situation about a year ago. Of course this might have changed during this period, but then I have been left out of the information loop and I haven't even tried this myself. This was actually a good reminder and I'll check if storing the emails on memory card would be possible at least in future (if that's not already the case).

I'll get back to this tomorrow or latest by Friday.

Re: continously growing "Other files" any remedy yet in E75

previously i had the emails in the phone memory and when i delete large emails, its reflected in the phone memory summary under messaging. right now, i have moved my messages to the memory card and i was hoping the emails moved too.
maybe i misunderstood it.

but it still doesnt say why memory in this phone is worse than my 6120c that has just 35MB free internal memory

Re: continously growing "Other files" any remedy yet in E75

i deleted email messages and it did not reflect in my phone free memory. Is the phone memory not supposed to reduce if emails are stored in the phone memory even if message settings are stored in memory card.

Laitos have you checked this yet.

Re: continously growing "Other files" any remedy yet in E75

Hi,

Sorry once again about this delay (yeah, I know it's not Friday anymore)... I still haven't gotten any comments from our SW team(s) about the emails and storing those on memory card, so basically I don't have any update on this issue yet.

The good thing is that I got once again a backup file which will be checked. And this person can deliver the device for investigation, so there's at least a chance of figuring out if there's a problem.

Anyhow, I'll once again start pushing for some answers :smileyhappy:

Re: continously growing "Other files" any remedy yet in E75

Good morning everyone!

I finally got the answer: E75 MfE doesn't store emails / downloaded attachments to memory card even though memory card has been selected to be used as message storage, so if you're a heavy user of MfE it is highly recommended to see if reducing the sync period helps with this issue.

alrite, laitos, thanks. I dont use mfE though. i just conventional email: yahoo, gmail, ovi. i guess that should be Nokia Messaging or is it one and the same thing with MfE?

That's a good question, I'll try to get some comments from the teams who develop other parts of the E75 client than MfE. I'll get back to this earliest on next Friday as I'm on a business trip from Sunday to Thursday and I'm not sure if I have enough time (or if I have internet access) to post anything here during this period.

Re: continously growing "Other files" any remedy yet in E75

@Laitos, thanks for your effort. My Phone free memory has been at 24.5MB and only goes down coz of browsing cache which i clear. It doesnt however improve when i delete emails. does it mean MfE mails are saved in phone memory and conventional emails are saved in the memory card?
I switched MESSAGING to my phone memory and my emails are no where to be seen. on the phone memory, it shows just two configured emails.
When i switched back to external memory, i see all my messages.
This fact and that deletion of emails doesnt improve free phone memory tells mi my emails are stored in Memory card, don't know yet but atleast am happy my Other files has been stagnant a while.
Any theory on this?

Yay, I got the comments from relevant teams and based on these comments it doesn't matter which type of account is used and all emails are stored on the phone memory.

Re: continously growing "Other files" any remedy yet in E75

Thanks Laitos for your effort and comment.
Anyways, still looking forward to the "other files problem" been resolved finally coz av got about 42MB of my meagre phone memory taken by "other files"

About emails been saved on phone memory, my storage memory in my former E75 was phone memory and i had to constantly delete messages from my phone as the memory was always LOW.
with this new device, i decided to change messaging memory to memory card.

Although i didnt do that early enough as i had already configured my emails with messaging memory being phone memory. so emails flooded in and i DELETED all of em and then changed memory to MEMORY CARD.

I still receive emails and i dont have to delete mails as much as before again because since i sent the last message saying free phone memory was 24.5MB, its been that way since then, it reduces but comes back to 24.5 as soon as i delete my browser cache.

When i got your post, i decided to send me a mail of size 4.5MB(an audio file) from my phone to my gmail account which is configured in my phone too.
I checked free memory on both phone and memory card prior to doing this. when i received the message i downloaded it and played it.

i checked my free memory again, the phone's memory was still as it was but the Memory card had lost 10MB which is approximately the size of the message sent still in the SENT items folder of my yahoomail and the downloaded copy in my gmail account.

Maybe I am lucky!
but my EMAILS are saved on memory card.

Thanks Laitos.
like before, looking forward to the dearth of "other files"

Re: continuously growing "Other files" any remedy yet in E75

Estimated All:

I have the same problem I{m using m&e and after delete some email part of the memory was free.

I suspect that this is totally related to emails temporary files generated like attachments downloads.

It{ will be very useful if we can storage emails in memory card as I did when I have my e71.

I thought that this new e series will give me more app and functions but now I{m really missing my e71 :smileysad:.

PD m&e is only keeping 2 weeks of emails in the old e71 iwas able to have 1 month with out problems

This 'other files'/'memory full' problem is driving me nuts. I have paid a lot for this phone and don't want to be forced to reinstall every now and then.

Re: continously growing "Other files" any remedy yet in E75

I am positive that this is a M4E issue as it happened on my E75 with no third party software installed, just M4E setup.  After waiting 6 months for a fix, I got rid of my E75; that was 6 months ago.
