Re: Why I love the E90

Me: Hi my name's Phil and I'm a Psion user.

All: Hi Phil.

Me: It's been two and half years since I last used a Psion...

One word son: QWERTY keyboard.

OK, that's two words but I don't consider 'QWERTY' a word. For years I was completely dependent a Psion 5 and then, when that got stolen, a 5mx. It kept my time management from blowing up. I wrote whole articles and bits of book chapters on the road with it. In fact, the first article I wrote covered the cost of the machine. It paid for itself over and over again. Then, as mx's were wont to do the touchscreen upped and stopped working, along with the screen-side short cuts, in late 2005. Then began the quest for an alternative.

I tried a 6630 'PDA phone' but the keypad was a struggle for anything more difficult than SMSing. Somehow I couldn't quite find any references to the earlier Communicators when I was searching, so missed them totally, and ended up opting for an HP iPaq HW6515. The HP was OK, one of those tiny QWERTY keyboards kind of like a bobbly E61i, but I still couldn't work on it in the same way as I could actually *write* on the Psion (that being said, the Tom Tom satnav worked a treat, and still does, and as a phone it was excellent). Then a friend in my university's engineering department put me onto the O2 Xda Exec (aka the HTC Universal) which was really quite good; 640x480 VGA screen, reasonably good wifi, Windows Mobile 5. Then it went wrong -- or perhaps the SIM did. O2 had me send the handset in for replacement without checking the latter, which I dutifully did.

Now for the confessional bit: I'd already seen the E90 on a trip to Malaysia, and got to play on one experimentally in the KLCC mall. 2/3 the weight of the Exec, slimmer construction, infinitely easier to use keyboard (the Exec's was sort of shorter and fatter), much larger screen ... and Symbian! Ye cats how I missed Epoc/Symbian. Stable; robust; systematic.... Did I mention stable? So when the Exec began to go wrong, and when O2 apologetically admitted they didn't stock the model any longer I mourned an otherwise decent piece of kit for ... easily 3.5 seconds ... pointed out the E90 was available on much the same tariff that I already had, and the whole reason I'd gone to O2 was that I needed QWERTY keyboard unit ... and since the Exec was still under warranty ...

Buh-wah-hah-hah-hah-hah!

What would I improve? Touchscreen maybe, but I'm gobsmacked by how really slickly the thing handles without it. So that's hardly essential. And maybe, if someone could convince Psion-Teklogix to stop being dogs-in-the-manger over licensing the sliding keyboard design they don't use in any of their products anymore, that brilliant Psion 5/5mx folding/sliding keyboard thing.

Which means, for most practical purposes, nothing. The thing's a dream, and does all the kinds of networked things that were just outside the reach of the dear old 5mx, even using my equally adored Nokia 6310i candy-bar (my first proper handphone ever *sniff*) as a phone modem via infrared. So it's both surrogate Psion and a first rate hand phone, in other words a Symbian PDA and Nokia candy-bar phone all in one.

I am *so* happy... *sigh*.

Re: Why I love the E90

Hello users E90. I wonder if you agree with me?

E90 vs N95
+ much better battery (1500 mAh !)
+ huge RAM (128 MB !)
+ qwerty keypad provides very fast texting
+ fantastic speakers give a deep, strong bass
+ amazing screen
- lacks lens cover
- weight (210 grams !)
- 2,5mm out-put for earphones

Same things: video quality (vga/3-fps/mmp4), gps, wlan, camera quality although N95 has 5Mpx, Symbian S60

Re: Why I love the E90

The E90 is the best constructed device I've ever own, very sturdy buildt & great colour rendition on screen 16M & camera capture. I've had several PDA/smartphones all with touchscreens in the past all with some decent features but non can compare overal, it would make it complete with TV- out, USB/OTG & better improve GPS response.

Re: Why I love the E90

I can't emphasize enough the sturdy metal casing on E90 gives it a feel of a quality product instead of cheap flimsy plastic construction that scratches easily, the dual screen interface is a treat. I have to confess the E90 is the first NOKIA phone I've ever own, before I would only consider others like O2's Xda Flame & HTC Tytn2, but the E90 contains all the best attributes of it's competitors.

Re: Why I love the E90

I did look at the TyTn II when mulling over the relative virtues of the E90. I might have considered the TyTn II except that (a) the keyboard really is much more cramped than the E90 and (b) one lesson I learned on the iPaq was that having to enter numbers by using function key + letter key can be incredibly awkward and irritating. The full QWERTY keyboard on the Exec/HTC Universal and E90 makes entering numerical information far easier. And of those two, the wider keyboard design on the Communicators is much more comfortable to use than the Exec.

As a footnote, I did recently get to play on a friend's 9500. It really was very nice, but just a tad tooo big for what I'd want to use day to day (I eventually found the Exec to bulky and heavy to be comfortable lugging around; the E90 slips nicely into the upper middle range of a comfortablr bulk), and I found the darker screen much less agreeable to work on than the very bright, clear E90 screen. Slightly easier keyboard to use, but there's a knack to using the E90 keyboard which gives a different kind of feedback -- but the feedback is there and fine once one has the hang of it.

Re: Why I love the E90

1. 3G does not support Fax so as far as a Native Fax client on the E90, forget it.
2. Use the search feature that comes with the E90. It searches via Meta Data, and indexing and is better and faster.
3. Have no idea what you mean. "???????" is not a question.
4. You should have tested it before you bought it.
5. No need for it as you do not have to close applications.

6. Read the manual.

Show the KUDOS button some love.... Hit that bad boy.... It don't hurt....

Maybe is it faster, ... but therefor you need to :
- go into "Desk"
- "Search"
- choose where to look for (Contacts which is after the last displayed line)
- type in what you are looking for
- wait for results to be displayed
- if you choosed more than 1 category, go into the category "Contacts",
- click on it
- choose the one you need
- and, finally, click on it.
- Yess ... you got it !

Fast, easy and very user friendly. The must to have !

At least if you need to call a very old customer you don't remember his name, just his company name !

Sure we don't share the same notion of "better and faster"

IMPOSSIBLE !
YOU are THE only one I know who has been able to test the E90 before buying it.
I do NOT know any shop that will accept to open a box, put in the battery, inserting a SIM card and allow you to test the mobile during one hour.

Perhaps your real problem is that you have a low IQ and are beyond understanding how to use an advanced phone? THIS THREAD IS FOR POSITIVE REVIEWS ONLY!! I know you are a n00b on these forums, but at least PRETEND you have the brains of a little white mouse.

IQ ??? What's that ?
Brains ? More than one ?

Who are you daiichi to write such arrogant things ?

You don't want to hear thuth ?

You always have to attack persons rather than giving right contre-arguments ?
Or maybe you don't have right arguments to give !

dom_dom,

1. It is like you and several others here can not be bothered to read the manual. I happen to have had the search as one of my desktop items. Hmmmmm..... Can you say one click for the desktop?

2. You and your "partners" continue to sing the "I can't test the E90 so I just paid my money, and now I am disappointed" song. Well, I happen to be in Germany last week, and guess what? I got to test an E90 for about 25 mins. Even put in my own SIM card. Another news flash. I did the same in France, the UK, going to Moscow and will try it there. If I make it down to NATO HQ in the next few weeks, I plan to stop in a few phone stores to see why these guys simply demand your money for an untested product. There has to be some sort of conspiracy going on here. Nokia demands money and people pay this. We need to bring the EU and Interpol into this. These are surly criminal actions and Nokia must be stopped.

Oh, to the lurking cowards that don't have the guts to show yourself, make sure you put a negative mark on this post as well.

Re: Why I love the E90

Gentlemen, Big Moderator is watching you.

The E90 threads are yet again losing objectivity in a whirlwind of personal comments between the pro- and anti-E90 camps. This is unacceptable, and will not be tolerated.

Kindly remember that the discussion boards are a user-to-user troubleshooting facility, not a school playground or an international 'hoodies' convention.

Re: Why I love the E90

@dom,

The FIRST post in this thread was:

"So this thread is different. I'd like to hear ONLY why you love your E90. It occurred to me how much I like this phone as I was riding with my wife (she was driving) to drop off our daughter."

Go back, and read it again. Then read your post again. Is the reason that you despise the E90 so much caused by your tendency not to see the overall picture--just like you illustrated in your negative post in a thread obviously meant for positive ones?

I'm just trying to understand why you feel it necessary to post negative thoughts on a thread titled "WHY I LOVE THE E90"?

I love the E90 more every time I use it. And I just bought my wife a LG Voyager, and my daughter a Moto Q (our family plan is Verizon which doesn't support the E90 yet)--so I had the opportunity to compare first hand the top-of-the-line of other manufacturers. And still the E90 is hand over fist better!
