Hi all,
I connected my E71 to the PC Suite and it said there was a new software available.. Stupid me, forgetting my last experience with the update, I pressed next and updated my phone to the new firmware 300.21.012.
Everything updated fine. However, when the phone restarted, it is now prompting for a lock code..
I have never used the lock and have never changed it from the default one.
used 12345 but no avail.. dont understand how this could have happened.
The only way to come out of this is pretend as if you are making an emergency call 112 and then press green button, but when you restart the phone, same thing prompts again.. lock code..
no excuses Nokia, you must have the answer to this. Believe me there are alot people peed off with the nig nags that come along with the software and its not really fair.
I hope some one responsible from Nokia replies soon.. really disappointed.

First of all, this is a Peer-to-Peer forum, you'll only get replies from other Nokia phone users and not Nokia. If you want an answer from Nokia click the "Contact us" button at the top of the screen to contact your countries Nokia Care service.
No one from Nokia will answer your request here, they are not able to do so.
If you use Mail for Exchange then you may have a changed this lock code when you connected to the exchange server.
Page 44 of the E71 guide says:
"With Mail for Exchange, the use of the lock code may be mandatory. The default lock code of your device is 12345, but your company's IT administrator may have set a different one for you to use."
The lock code can be alphanumeric so it can be a word if it is not the default code.
Unless you have changed it either accidentally or on purpose then it would still be the default 12345. You must have changed it or it still would be that.
If you are still unable to rectify the problem yourself, you can take the handset with proof of ownership to your local Nokia care point and they will be able to reset the code back the default. However they may charge you for this.
You can also try the three finger reset on your handset.
1. Switch off the phone.
2. Hold down the following three buttons: Green (the call answer button), * button, and '3' button.
3. While holding these buttons, hold the power button for a second to switch on the phone.
4. Release when the phone shows the nokia hands logo or shows other signs of life like the language selection screen.
I'm not sure if this will clear the lock code or not but its worth a try.
This reset will erase the handset, however installing firmware will have erased the phone anyhow.
Shunts...

Now a few people are experiencing this problem, and now they know their new firmware doesn't work. They should pay "testers" to check their firmware before they release it to the public.
Seems we are the so called "testers". And our service is free, plus we also buy their handsets so its nokia's win win situation!

Same problem here. Updated firmware (without memory card) -> phone locked - > can not do anything byt call 112...

try the last option, read carefully it might reset your code good luck
With all these operations I recommend you TAKE OUT MEMORY CARD and DO A BACK UP OF YOUR STUFF!!!
NOTE: In front of the hash key ( #) there is also a STAR key that people often miss and state that the code does not work.
1.. *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data) Make sure you back up your data as you will lose all of it when you perform option 2 or 3 on this list. The default code for ALL operations listed here is 12345.
2.*#7370# - Reformat your phone (out of the box, tho keep in mind that most newer nokia phones at least n series, e series and s60 based phones have udp - user data preservation so not ALL data may be lost. still it is a good idea to always do a back up of your stuff.)3. This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working. If the phone is not showing any activity, proceed with hard formatting , turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button. (the default code is 12345)
3. hard reset - hold the following buttons * (star key), 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen. once you feel the phone power up you can let go off the power button while still holding all three buttons ( for Nokia 5800XM - use the following buttons to do a hard reset, /GREEN/RED/CAMERA keys pressed all at once on power up. this will only work on 5800's that have firmware version 20... and up. ) For Nokia N97 (unofficial version but works) is SHIFT /SPACE BAR / BACKSPACE while holding the power button. Again do not let go until you see the handshake screen.
If these codes are not working the only thing for you to do is contact your Nokia Care Center/Service for assistance.

gave the phone to carphone warehouse, they kept the phone for a day and then said that due to the fault it had to be sent to the manufacture, ie Nokia... which means they werent able to flash it..
so see what happens.. will keep everyone posted..
