Hi I have an E71 and have a probelm opening SMS and Email. I can see the person it's from and either first line of the sms or subject for email, I cannot open the sms or email to read any further. I've tried to contact the operator technical help people, but they were no help...just told me to do a software reset and then take the battery and sim card out. This acheived nothing except to change all my settings. Does anyone have any ideas??

i have the same problem. it happens when using a new 16gb memory card, only with messages stored on the memory card. differently, everything works ok if i open the messages stored on phone memory instead than memory card.
the card is ok, because all softwares and other features are working regularly.
i've just sent a question to italian nokia support.
i'll let you know if they reply.

Take out your memory card and connect it to your computer by using some card reader. Copy all the material you can, then format it completely. Restore the copied material later. And it will work again. This error is most probably related to the memory card itself. You just have to format it. It happened with me few months back, I formatted my card from phone itself and used PC Suite for backup etc. and since then its working fine.

Update: the problem is here again.
Just to summarize:
- i formatted the memory card, as suggested;
- soon after, the phone was working well, able to open each message I had in the memory;
- I turned off the phone;
- I turned on the phone and again it was not able to read any message!!!
Now I guess it must be some software bug.

Hi, i didnt solve it, though i have some new information.
i discovered a corrupted file in a folder in a hidden directory : [memorycard]\private\...numbers...\mail2\0001000
i just deleted the file and the problem was cancelled!!! i used the messaging software and it worked everything ... until:
- some time afterwards all my messages simply disappeared!!! all the sms and email in the memory card.

just received a reply from nokia italia: they suggest to update the software, but it's already uptodate. (and the procedure is long, for backups...)

i think that i'll have to format it, but that's a shame as it is a very expensive phone, and it's too many problems and time wasted so far!!!

Just to add my two cents. . . Mine is an E71, also. When SMS is received, I cannot open it. Also, I cannot open any new email messages (the only way I can see them is to select "reply" - then, I get to see the message as if I were writing a reply to it).

I have formatted and refomatted my memory card, twice.

I have deleted the /mail2 folder, on the memory card, also twice.

I have reset messaging to its default settings and have been forced to set up email so many times that I can practically do it in my sleep. The last time I did this was only about 20 hours ago, and now I've encountered the same problem.

This is really getting ridiculous. Maybe I have to jettison Nokia Messaging and try Profimail, in the hopes that at least I'll be able to read email on my E71.

I don't think reformatting the memory card is the solution. I think there needs to be a permanent solution found.

Hi All,

I was also facing the same problem....but then I read one of post and I deed same..it says...

1)Remove ur mmc n connect it to pc or lap. by means of card reader

2)Open card in pc or lap. search for folder named "Mail2"  in it by going in search option in window...

3) Delete a)00001000

                 b)00100004

                 C)index    files in it...

remove mmc place it back in ur phone....restart phone...n Enjoy....
