hello All,
I think I have a new challenge for you ![]()
I have recently bought E72 and upgraded it to the newest version 31.023.c00.01.
I travel a lot, so all my contacts are stored with international phone number format in order to be able to resolve the name while roaming and decide who to answer (not to have a big bill).
The country code is of three degits, thee local code is of one digits and the number is six digits.
For example, +961 (3) 123456
Before doing the upgrade, when I receive a call, the name of the contacts used to show on my screen;
AFTER I did the upgrade, none of the name appeared on my screen. I did a lot of tests and I found the following
1- If the number format is 03123456 the name appears (but I cannot have this format since I need to store the users with international format)
2- If the number format is +961 (03) 123456 the name appears (but I cannot have this because I cannot call; GSM operator limitation)
3- Any other format does not work, and i mean ANY. i tried them all.
and it is not a duplicate name issue ![]()
I urgently need some help, if anyone has any idea about this. I did not think that going into Nokia would be that much painful.
Thanks in advance

If you think the WMob forum is better, faster or, maybe, honors impatience in general why do you care to post here? ![]()
Back to your problem:
IIRC Nokia phones distinguish contacts by the last 10 digits or so of the number. If you have more than one contact with the same last 10 digits, only the number will be shown when a call comes in.
On my E72 the format +11222333333 (without brackets or spaces) does perfectly work. Taking your example, +96103123456 should work as well. As mentioned above, it should be the only phone number ending with "6103123456" in your contacts, if you want to have the name shown upon a call.

I am posting here because i decided to move to nokia and there is no other forum to post it ![]()
i do not have the same 10 number; the issue is that it is not showing any of my contacts, and i ahve about 900 contacts.
i am sure that the 900 do not share the same 10 digits ![]()
thanks for the reply, i was starting to believe that it is a dead forum ![]()

What I do not really understand is that the phone does recognize the contact when the number is in brackets.
You may try to switch your phone temporarily to the SIM-Card contacts. Thus the number will be much smaller and it is easier to comprehend what is going on here.
Otherwise I am afraid you have to go the soft-reset, hard-reset, firmware update way (in that order) testing after each step.

it is not a mater or brackets; here is what i think.
before doing the upgrade, the phone compared the first 7 digits with the list of contacts; i stored the number as +961 (3) 123456, so if i recieve a call from number such as 03123456 the phone compared 3123456 with teh list and was able to find it.
After the upgrade, hte phone comares the first 8 digits with the list of contacts. if i recieve a call 03123456, the phone compared it with the list of contacts i have and it will not find it since the first 8 digits on they one for the same contact are 13123456.
if i store the contacts as +961 (03) 123456, the phone will be able to find the contact but i will not be able to make the call using this number format
HOW, i can do a firemare format or reinstall. i have tried the soft and hard reset.
i suppose that the soft is the factory default and teh hard is *#7370#, right?
thanks

I share Your frustration here. I'm having a similar problem.
On my Windows Mobile number recognizition wasn't a issue.
Storing contacts in Outlook with suggested formats brought up names on incomming calls.
On my E72 it's not working an all contacts.
Another thing thats perhaps related is that sending SMS from OVI Suite to a contact with a number stored as 070-7XXXXX or +46-70-7XXXXXX is not possible while 0707XXXXXX works fine.
I'm not saying Windows Mobile is better (in fact it's lightyears behind in call quality, stability etc) but regarding contact management, integration with Outlook the E72 platform is a pain in the ***

i have checked with other people having E72; it seems that only few of them got this issue after the upgrade.
i do not know if it is something related to the phone code, and the update is not made for our phones, knowing that i got the update from ovi!!
any feedback is upreciated
thanks
