Yes, this automatic capital writing works in the same stupid manner as most phones. The E71 was much more clever here.
I am used to press the shift-key when writing a capital letter on a qwerty keyboard.
So after a dot I use the shift key for the next letter to start the sentence.
Now, if I write dot - space - shift-'a' I get a small 'a'. But I want a big A :-(
That is so frustrating...

Jan. 14 Got my E72...loved it...
Jan. 16 The space bar has stopped working at all which is really annoying when writing messages.
Anyone knows how to fix it?
Thanks.

Many thanks, Kendoji. The space bar works fine now.
Will this space bar problem bring a more serious problem in the near future? Shall I bring it back?
Appreciate your advise.

It sounds like it doesn't happen very often, and it doesn't happen to all E72s (hasn't happened to me yet). Chances are that Nokia will fix it in a firmware update at some point, so if you can live with resetting your phone if it happens again, I wouldn't worry too much.

And you know this how?
Yes, Nokia employees and others related do visit these forums, but it's not an official line of support. If you want something fixed, contact support and tell them. That's the official way you'll get bugs reported, logged and they will then be addressed. Don't accept front line support as they will try to deal with your problem and fix it on the assumption it's a user error (*all* front line support in just about any corporate in the world will do this as 99% of the time it is a user error). You need to drive it through until they log it.
As for it being a disaster, hardly. There are issues sure, as with any new product anyway, but none are disasterous. Just niggly or an inconvenience. Found a few myself, but I'm sure there will be fixes for them. The only dissapointment are the lack of AP group support in the email client (so no seamless WLAN roaming and WLAN->3G), and push email issues. But even the push email is not a disaster. Most people haven't really got a clue what push email actually means and can make do with a 5 minute poll anyway (nor do they realise that for push email to work, especially with IMAP Idle, you'll need an always on connection anyway, which means battery drain, wireless radiation, and a little data use. A polling interval is generally better but with the trade off that the mail isn't absolutely instant). Fair enough though that things are not as promissed or advertised. That's a different matter, but doesn't make the software a disaster.
Now the N97 on the other hand... ![]()

deadkenny, you're being condescendent to other users and your lesson on whether we should want to use push email -or if we even know what push email is- are out of subject in this thread.
I've had the phone for almost 2 months, spent 4 our 5 hours on the phone with Nokia's support, days in configuration and reading or writing on this forum, went through 2 hard resets 1 firmware update, stopped using bluetooth for unreliability, stopped using VoIP for unreliability, loosing email connections sometime for days for no reason (sometimes Gmail sometimes Exchange), lost dozens of calls, rebooted 2 or 3 times a day for no reason (since the firmware upgrade and in most cases in the middle of a call); missed the two calls from my boss today, missed urgent emails again this morning, and lost patience a hundred times while the phone is unusable when I need it (since the upgrade it regularly slows during 5 or 10 minnutes to the point of being almost frozen even after reboot).
Yes, this is boring to read too, but at least it's related to the subject of this thread. At this point I don't care to know what push email is to be honest, I just would like Nokia to meet up the product descriptions that convinced me to spend € 400 on their phone. Let me and J_Florencio call this a disaster if we wish to. thank you.

Hi every body, may be someone can give me an help.
I am looking for a smartphone which work very fine. It must be very light and not have any hardware problem. It must have a very long battery life because I often have very long conf call with the boss.
I want that this one has a A-GPS with good and free navigation maps, must also start quickly (less that 2 seconds), a good and easy calendar that I can sync with outlook at home, lotus at work and gmail for fun. It must also have a very good contact DB for more 1120 contacts. Like the calendar, must be sync with outlook, lotus and so on, but I want a selective sync. Job contact on lotus, outlook contact for private. This smartphone must be compatible with lot of applications (trading, travel, …..). It must have a good wakeup clock for my business travel. It must have good communication capability, without hang conversation and so on.
Please, give me a good model and type knowing that it must be the more recent model (latest model).
In evidence all off this must work very fine WITHOUT ANY BUG and no need HARD RESET and so on…… NO battery problem or anything else. What do you think about Windows 6.5, Android symbian or sony or ……….
Thank for reading and for your advise.
Don’t forget also that the price must be very low (I am poor an need that to become rich, hope).
Is it a dream ? Or a fantastic crazy dream ? (like Speilberg can made).
Best regards
P.s. : If you think about (or know) a smartphone that can make the coffee don’t hesitate to give his name, I am VERY VERY VERY interest AND WHAT ELSE ?

I am in Full agreement with the statement that the E72 Software is un stable and has a quiet a few bugs.
I have the phone with software version 0.21.024 there is no new software released for this phone for India.
I have boyught this phone about 2 weeks back beore this I was using E51 and was quiet Happy with the phone and its software.
The list of issues that are faced by me are as follows.
Bluetooth
1. The Bluetooth head set works at time only when it is kept near the phone. e.g if the phone is in the right hand and the Bluetooth hands free is on your left ear it does not work properly but when you shift the hands free to the right ear it works better. When you restart the phone the problem disaapears for a short span of time.
2. The Bulethooth hands free gives a squeaking sound when you try to dial out and the noice stops as soon as you hear the ringing tone.
3. While talking on the bluetooth hands free the bluetooth handsfree looses connection with the mobile phone.
4. The System appears to be extremly slow when you swithc on the hands free and it is trying to connect with the phone.
These above problem disaapears for 15 to 30 minues when you restart the phone bu reappears later.
5. When you receive a text message on SMS at time when you try to open the same it says unsupported message if you swithc off the phone and switch it on the same message is shown properly.
6. When you browse on the internet the browser just crashes without any message.
7. The space key just stops working at some point at time.
8. The phone appears to be extremely slow when you are moving across applications.
9. The entire keyboard gets locked only the power off switch work at times.
10. I have configured Gmail on my phone the mails are not getting downloaded some times it dowload randomly i shall put it across it downloads mails when it feels like.
These are a few that I have observed in the 2 weeks of my usage i do not know how many more are there.
Now I am at a stage where Iam not sure a particular issue I am facing is a BUG or a Feature
It is extremly difficult to use this phone for my business requirement.
The looks and feature wise it is a great phone but anything that you use seems to have a bug.

I think that at least some of these problems are solved with the new firmware. I would assume that they'd bring it out for the India region soon, but Nokia is never very forthcoming about that stuff.

I have come across such software issues on the Nokia CDMA phone earlier.
At that time I was not aware of the Forum and used to interact with the Nokia Authorized Service Center or the Nokia Support Head for India.
Nokia person goes on a denial mode and he starts countering your problems saying that so many people are using and we have not received many complaints. Or else the percentage of complaints that we have received are very low.
Only after the Firmware was release did he acknowledge that the problem was there.
Hence I feel that every person who faces any problem should put it up on such problem even if it is not affecting his daily working so that vendor realizes the Magnitude of the problem.
This also helps us as customers prove to Vendors like Nokia that there is a know problem in the equipment.

Nokia don't make it easy to contact anyone to let the right department know
how broken this release is.
Could someone publish a working e-mail alias or telephone number that we can ring
other than first line support - I don't have the time to wait explaining that I've rebooted my
phone etc.
09-Feb-2010 02:29 PM
Can anyone publish a link to contact Nokia other than their contact page nonsense ?
09-Feb-2010 07:07 PM
hey , am facing the same issue too.
am from india , bangalore
bought my phone only 3 to 4 weeks back ![]()
what happened to your phone eventually ? was it replaced ?
09-Feb-2010 08:09 PM
I have downloaded the last firmware OverTheAir in the phones menu. It seams to work ok now. I've been using it for 1 week now and no resets so far.
As for the Bluetooth issues, I don;t have any ideas if it solves the problem as I don;t use it.
Best regards!
